I wanted to make a short about the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. So a few days after the storm (Friday, Nov 2) we grabbed some gear and went into downtown. Obviously we weren't ready to do an actual doc or a comprehensive news story. So we set out to just try and find stories and show the characters of, and character of NYC. Song is Black Water by Apparat. Gear: Canon 5Dmii, 7D, T2i Canon 24-105 4.0, 70-200 2.8, Zeiss 50, Tokina 11-16 Zoom H4N, Rode NTG-2

I recently had the pleasure of following a group of New Orleans Firefighters as they traveled to NYC to help out with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The trip served as payback for the aid FDNY provided after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. Many of the NOFD members on the trip lost their homes in Katrina, and some lost their homes again in Hurricane Issac. Commissioned by Southwest Airlines, who flew the firefighters to New York without charge. Blog post: http://tinyurl.com/cz87q8e

Distant cries of alarm compel a creature from the depths, EnviroSiren, to swim to the precarious shores of Earthlings. Sink or Swim? an SOS on rising seas, is her siren song to awaken humans to their beautiful but warming planet, before it's too late. Shot on location in Tulum, Mexico, and on a Red Epic camera at Pier59 Studios in NYC, SOS is a lush, seductive and playful invitation to turn the tides on climate change. #SANDY is a book of iPhone Photos of Hurricane Sandy by acclaimed photographers to be published by Daylight Books in October 2014. 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to Occupy Sandy to support their rebuilding efforts in the New York City area. Last October 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated communities in the New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas. In response, Foley Gallery and photographer Wyatt Gallery organized an exhibition of iPhone photographs of the storm by acclaimed documentary and fine art photographers. Hundreds of people attended the one night event and almost 400 photographs were purchased. We were able to donate $19,000 in sales to Occupy Sandy and Third Wave Volunteers. As the first year anniversary approaches, many residents are still struggling to regain normal living conditions. In order to remind the public that people are still in need of assistance and to raise money to support rebuilding efforts, we are producing this groundbreaking book. Photographers featured in the book are: Benjamin Lowy Stephen Wilkes Ed Kashi Richard Renaldi Hank Willis Thomas Lyle Owerko Wyatt Gallery Ruddy Roye Michael Christopher Brown Giles Clarke Andrew Quilty Craig Wetherby Erica Simone 13th Witness Sam Horine Yosra El-Essawy Stanley Lumax Nicole Sweet Dylan Chandler Brent Bartley

                    • Superstorm Sandy One Year Later: 'We're Still Living Through It'

                      from InsideClimate News / Added

On Oct. 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy ravaged New York City's waterfront. The Rockaway Peninsula in Queens still bears the scars. Houses damaged by floodwaters sag with rot and mold. Businesses are shuttered. The beach's miles-long boardwalk is gone. One year later, the residents there face a difficult dilemma between staying and leaving, as the reality of climate change—and the fears of another superstorm—are now a daily part of life. In this video, InsideClimate News' reporter Maria Gallucci visits the Rockaway's Belle Harbor neighborhood and talks to Scott and Stacey Nagel. The couple is still rebuilding their lives and the home they lived in there for 27 years. "We're not leaving," said Scott Nagel. "We just need to be better protected."
