www.adeepershadeofblue.com A Deeper Shade of Blue is the award-winning new film from legendary photographer and surfing film maker Jack McCoy, the man behind cult hits like Occy the Occumentary and Blue Horizon. Set to touch, move and inspire surf rippers, and inform and delight the rest of us, this much-anticipated release is the most comprehensive story of surfing ever told. The biggest boldest film of McCoy’s career, A Deeper Shade of Blue combines innovative cinematography with a unique narrative structure, to reveal and encapsulate the historic arc and modern trajectory of surfing culture. Not a ‘surf movie’ but a film about the art’s deepest roots, it presents the story of surfing as native Hawaiian culture's greatest gift to the world - from ancient beginnings to early 20th century popularity as a Waikiki tourist attraction, to today’s billion dollar a-year global action sports goliath. Told in eleven cleverly entwined chapters featuring narratives from star professional surfers Jordy Smith, Jamie O’Brien and Stephanie Gilmore, the film describes the evolution of surfboards, from wooden planks in Hawaii to the latest mind-blowing hi and lo-tech vehicles, expanding the concept of wave riding, connected by the traditional Hawaiian spirit and practice of Aloha, the beating heart of surf culture. Women will be excited to learn that two female surfing heroines' love of this most difficult art played a hugely significant part in surfing’s rise to worldwide fame – Hawaiian Princess Kaiulani who resurrected surfing in the late 1800s after a Missionary ban, and Malibu surfing legend ‘Gidget’ who brought surfing to the masses in the late 1950s through a Hollywood film and TV series. Before Gidget burst into the mass media, there were less than a thousand surfers in the world, afterward, millions. Featured surfers: Jamie O'Brien, The Marshall Brothers - Chad & Trace, Manoa Drollet, Stephanie Gilmore, Jordy Smith, Tom Wegener, Derek Hynd, Marti Paradisis and Terry Chung. A Deeper Shade of Blue is backed emotionally by an exhilarating soundtrack from the likes of Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Kaukahi with Jack Johnson and Paul McCartney. The ground-breaking underwater camerawork allows viewers to enjoy unprecedented and unforgettable experiences, seeing and feeling the waves as only a top surfer can.
