More footage : http://vimeo.com/33933151 In March 2011, the first footage (http://vimeo.com/11386048) from my non-profit IMAX film In Saturn's Rings went viral, resulting in 3.8 million hits and 1.3 million plays & media coverage in over 250 countries. Some viewers expressed disbelief that the footage was created only from real photographs. Here are a few unfinished, work-in progress shots from the film. In these incomplete shots, it is much easier to see that only real photographs are being used. Much more work will be done on all these shots to improve them. I'm creating the film on home-built computers running Adobe Photoshop & After Effects. Let me know if you'd like to help. Work in Progress Shots #1 “Earth to Moon” (from 50,000+ photographs) #2 “Shuttle Flyover” (from 1,000+ photographs) #3 “Ring Twirl” (from 10,000+ photographs) #4 “Big Bang Test” (from 20,000,000+ photograph instances) Master is 5.6k resolution (5600 x 4200 pixels) with all work done in 32-bit floating point color space to preserve photographs from artifacts. No 3D models, CGI or texture maps used! http://www.insaturnsrings.com/ Not-for-profit animated IMAX film in production by a single filmmaker. Visit the site to make a tax-deductible contribution to support the film. Much thanks to everyone who has supported and contributed to this. This is the beginning, just a taste of incredible things to come. This is still a work-in-progress and it's an art film, not a science film.

Brand New footage here: http://vimeo.com/34001144 In March 2011, the first footage (http://vimeo.com/11386048) from my non-profit IMAX film In Saturn's Rings went viral, resulting in 3.8 million hits and 1.3 million plays & media coverage in over 250 countries. Here is an improved, extended version of that footage with unlit side of rings, better color and other small tweaks added. I'm creating the film on home-built computers running Adobe Photoshop & After Effects. Let me know if you'd like to help. Created from over 30,000 real photographs taken by the Cassini spacecraft. Master is 5.6k resolution (5600 x 4200 pixels) with all work done in 32-bit floating point color space to preserve photographs from artifacts. No 3D models, CGI or texture maps used! http://www.insaturnsrings.com Not-for-profit animated IMAX film in production by a single filmmaker. Visit the site to make a tax-deductible contribution to support the film. Much thanks to everyone who has supported and contributed to this. This is the beginning, just a taste of incredible things to come. This is fly-through of this photograph - photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA11141 - only a little brightness and contrast has been made to balance the moons with saturn's body. The saturation is off due to lack of Flash Player ICM support. This is still a work-in-progress and it's an art film, not a science film, but as new image data comes down I will tweak this shot for improved accuracy.

from Stephen van Vuuren Added 4,463 20 1

A very short excerpt of new actual footage from "Outside In". This clip is created entirely from still photographs taken by the Cassini spacecraft - no CGI, no 3D models, textures etc. This is a 1080p HD file down-rezzed from a 5600 x 4200 32-bit color (5.6k) master file. This is a fly-through of the Equinox photograph taken by Cassini last year. Very large photo-mosaics from talented folks at Unmanned Spaceflight forums as well as ring mosaics created by me make this possible when combined with various animation techniques. Created in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. Work at this resolution has been impossible until the new 64-bit version of After Effects. Stay tuned for the full clip! NEW VERSION HERE: http://vimeo.com/33933151 and new shots here: http://vimeo.com/34001144 http://www.insaturnsrings.com Not-for-profit animated IMAX film in early production by a single filmmaker. Visit the site to make a tax-deductible contribution to support the film. I hope to present this clip at the international IMAX show (GSCA Expo) next month. I'm very excited to present the first test from "In Saturn's Rings" that actually represents real footage in progress from the film. Camera moves are still being tweaked and this is cropped version as IMAX-sized stuff does not play well online. But thanks to the new version of Adobe After Effects, "Outside In" can be made as I have always envisioned. Much thanks to everyone who has supported and contributed to this. This is the beginning, just a taste of incredible things to come. This is fly-through of this photograph - http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA11141 - only a little brightness and contrast has been made to balance the moons with saturn's body. Do note that several thousand layers of many Cassini photographs were animated to make the fly-through work without any 3D CGI. The saturation is off due to lack of Flash Player ICM support. This is still a work-in-progress and it's an art film, not a science film, but as new image data comes down I will tweak this shot for improved accuracy.
