          • JJ SPACES Façade

            from JPLEASANT / Added

J/J SPACES FAÇADE During the weekend of April 24th 2015 the Slang Gallery on the Spuistraat in Amsterdam would have been the home of Jalal Pleasant (USA) and Jeroen Huisman (NL), both artists and working on the presentation of a collaborative art installation called J/J SPACES. However, the sudden closing of the Slangenpand in which the Slang Gallery was housed has blocked their photograpic video installation art experience. J/J SPACES now appears to be the final exhibition scheduled in the Slang, which unfortunately could not take place. The closing and utter physical destruction of De Slang’s cultural icon did not mean the end of J/J SPACES. As a result of circumstances J/J SPACES will be re-visualized as a pop up public installation on the location of the original Slangenpand and is called J/J SPACES FAÇADE. This street exhibition serves as a celebration and commemoration of ‘’Het Slangepand’’ and the 80’s punk rock inspired DIY (Do it Yourself) culture. The artists take the opportunity to promise a special prize to the Slang for its cultural and social meaning, presented on paper in the J/J SPACES FACADE installation. April 30th 2015 @ 199 Spuistraat, Amsterdam. https://www.facebook.com/JJSPACESevent Photography & Cinematography by: Jeroen Huisman and Jalal Pleasant Editing and Effects by: Jalal Pleasant

The Temple of Din is an audio arcade consisting of a series of pinball/musical instrument hybrids that make sound generation, not scoring the games main objective. Works like; Pinball Pianola (http://dualplover.com/pinballpianola/) a Frankenstein experiment combining an upright piano and a pinball game with twenty flippers triggered by a keyboard that shoots balls against the soundboard’s exposed strings, Balls for Cthulhu (http://dualplover.com/cthulhu/) a pentagram shaped multiplayer game formed by ten guitars with their fret boards facing inward, so the strings take the full brunt of balls jostled by players stationed at each of the stars five tips, Flip-Off (http://dualplover.com/flipoff/) a pin/foosball hybrid that creates automated break core music by triggering Toecutter samples and Pitchfork (http://dualplover.com/pitchfork/) which has twenty tuning forks incorporated throughout the playfield you can aim for. Built for musical play by Australian sound artist Lucas Abela these machines form the Temple of Din, a place that can only be attributed to the cacophonous Miami Beach video arcade of his youth. Where the reverberating screams of multiple amusement machines housed closely together in a small concrete room became etched into his psyche and must have influenced his adult life as part of the international free-noise underground.

                  from Tim Shoebridge / Added

Find me on Flickr here: flickr.com/photos/8370520@N04/ This is a short compilation of video clips of early-morning commuters. It was shot on location in the vicinity of Tate Modern and St Pauls Cathedral between 6am and 7am one workday morning. The clips were shot as an experiment to see how well I could hand-hold my Sony a7s using a cheap shoulder mount by Beike. The mount was very stable but with one serious drawback, which is it fits against your rib cage, so the only way to get a still shot is to hold your breath! Okay for stills but not recommended for video. An original music score. Equipment used: Sony a7s + Sony Zeiss T* FE Vario-Tessar 24-70mm ZA.
