Several years ago, we visited artist David Sena's studio to peep behind the curtain and find out about his unique process. Sena (who has given a few CH staff members tattoos in the past) creates large-scale artworks using an unusual method: the Cooper Union graduate "paints" almost exclusively using fireworks. The results are fantastic. The artist translates rough burn marks and leftover trails from smoke bombs into mesmerizing pieces that viewers would never believe were born from roadside explosives. We donned respirators and went back to visit Sena—and finally capture his work on film.

This is a short film intended as an experiment in how to show my work in an alternative form. It is so hard to catch the beauty of a tattoo on a person's body with out standing right next to them, so i decided to try and make a short piece concentrating on the depth and texture of my work. This is not a professional attempt by any means, hopefully it is a starting point for me to create something better. thank you for looking. All tattooing, video and music by Thomas Hooper.

The first collaboration between tattooist and illustrator Loren Fetterman and performance artist Stefanie Elrick. Merging tattooing, body art, poetry, calligraphy and photography in a dynamic new piece of work. Over 4months the writing of a group of strangers was collected by these artists and transformed into one multi-voiced master poem. This was then turned into all over body design and blood-lined, in delicate calligraphy, over one woman's body in 6hrs. Born in 1978 in Hiroshima, Horitaro Yuki, starts tattooing at age 17. In 1997 in Kawasaki, he's struck by Japanese traditional tattooing and discovers it's sophistication as disciple of prestigious Hori-Hito. For the next five years under his master's teaching, he improves upon this ancestral art, before taking his independence under the patronage of Hiro-Hito. He founds his own tattoo studio in his hometown, Hiroshima. As the tradition has it, his master Hiro-Hito gives Horitaro his artist name : Hori-Taro. Today, while not neglecting modernity, he performs "tebori"(手彫り, literally "hand carving"), a rare Japanese technique using the force of the wrist only. Depending on the size and the complexity of the design, the completion of the tattoo can take several years work. Driven by constantly improving his skills, Hori-Taro puts all his energies to reach new levels, while respecting the tradition and the codes of this old mythical Art: "Irezumi" (Japanese tattoo). ちなみに、堀太郎じゃなくて彫太郎です^_^笑 DIRECTOR : John Carriere www.facebook.com/JohnC.VideoDirector SON#1: "Marty Feldman" by Keshco (www.keshco.co.uk) SON#2: "Requiem for Victims of East Japan Earthquake" by Sanmi (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/sanmi/hope20/Requiem_for_Victims_of_East_Japan_Earthquake) SON#3: "Musi" by Aoiroooasamusi (http://www.myspace.com/musie93)
