Audiences and readers of Shakespeare have long concurred that Shakespeare was a master of emotion- a writer who could understand and articulate human emotion in unusually modern terms, prompting -even now - intense emotional responses. This roundtable event explores how emotion, as it was understood in Shakespeare's time and in ours, conditions Shakespeare's work and assures its continued relevance to contemporary audiences.

'Air in Motion' On 15 May, Iñaki Ábalos and Renata Sentkiewicz (Ábalos + Sentkiewicz, Madrid) presented their perspective on how a thermodynamic conception of architecture heightens the importance of 'air'. It seeks to prioritise the role of air and the void, not just the materials, forms and iconography of built form. This leads, to some extent, to a growing evanescence of the spatial systems which, in turn, leads to new ways of experiencing architecture. In fact, the prioritisation of 'air' gives prominence to the somatic experience of the subject. In other words, the individual moves around and makes his / her own experience of art, city and life, following impulses that are regulated neither by reason or by phenomenological stimuli, but by a set of instincts, social and cultural rules, and by the will to expand the boundaries of his / her own experience. Iñaki Ábalos is an architect and Professor of Architectural Design at GSD Harvard. Renata Sentkiewicz is an architect and Associate Professor of Architectural Project Design at the ETSAM, Madrid. This session is presented by Luis Feduchi from UQ School of Architecture.
