Nine months ago, in September 2014, I was lying on the side of a ten-thousand-foot desert mountain in Turkey, unable to move, struggling to breath. People rescued me, people I knew, people I didn’t. Alone in a Turkish hospital, watching the shadows of objects in my room arc across the floor from dawn to dusk, each day, for weeks, in agony and gratitude, I thought about how death is easy, surviving is difficult. One morning, a bird landed on my window sill, sang for a few moments, then flew away. From that moment, I felt an intense resolve. For five months, I was unable to walk. Each day, hours of excruciating physiotherapy and training. Pain was my shadow. When I was alone at night, I cried. Then, slowly, steps. Gently. Inside I screamed in rage. More months, winter passed. I started flying again. Tentatively. Many flights later, on this day, I realized that I was physically and mentally ready to compete again. It was a simple flight with friends: a bright blue sky, beautiful mountains, and rough thermals. With new next-level flying and filming gear, for the first time in over a year, I felt motivated to film again. Follow http://www.CameraEducator.blogspot.com by Jan van der Meer (www.Global-DVC.Org) for more tips and info on filming with mini cams like Sanyo HD Flip Mino Kodak Sony. The Xacti SH1 features SANYOs original 35mm Wide Angle and Advanced Zoom technology. This technology expands the video shooting area by enlarging the size of the video image captured on the CMOS from 2 megapixels (as on conventional Full HD models) to 3.5 megapixels. By using the pixels more effectively, it is able to perform the equivalent of 35 mm wide-angle shooting on a traditional film camera. At the other extreme, the SH1s focal length can be set to 1050 mm when you use the built-in 30x zoom.

Presented at farbrausch @ breakpoint 2007, fr-041: d e b r i s is a ground-breaking tech demo presenting the viewer with 7 minutes of real-time generated graphics, music and storyline - in a package of 177KB, less than a single web page or word document. As we approach the days of blu-ray gaming, this demonstrate the demo-scene is still able to produce works that far outperform commercial enterprises both on a technical and artistic level. Ironically, presenting this demo in a video format as a 6.5mpbs H.264 file takes more than two thousand time the amount of space the demo weights itself. visuals, direction: theunitedstatesofamerica (aka fiver2) code: chaos, ryg soundtrack: ronny synthesizer: kb sound effects: wayfinder additional graphics: giZMo additional code: tron special thanks: fried fr-041: d e b r i s is available for download via http://www.scene.org/

Daniel Rozin "Penguins Mirror", 2015 450 stuffed animals, motors, control electronics, xbox kinect motion sensor, mac-mini computer, custom software, tin bases dimensions variable "Penguins Mirror" is an installation scattered on the floor and comprised of 450 motorized stuffed animals. Reductive in palette, yet baroque in behavior, it performs an absurdly homogeneous system of movement. Playing with the compositional possibilities of black and white, each penguin turns from side to side and responds to the presence of an audience. As they perform, the penguins’ collective intelligence is puzzling, yet somehow familiar, as the plush toys enact a precise choreography rooted in geometry. Filmed and edited by Victoria Sendra.
