      • Cool Hunting Video: Aether SF

        from Cool Hunting Added 37K 316 2

As longtime fans of Aether's sophisticated line of outerwear, we jumped at the chance to visit their first brick and mortar retail location. The recently opened San Francisco shop is uniquely constructed from three shipping containers, and is now home to an even more intriguing inventory system. To maximize space, the Aether team incorporated a custom-built rotating rack that spans all three floors. We sat down with Aether co-founders Palmer West and Jonah Smith about the impetus behind the store and how they are translating a primarily online business into the real world. from Tangram Factory, Inc. Added 180K 299 7

Smart Rope is an LED-embedded jump rope that communicates with your smart phone. This is the first active fitness wearable for the Smart Gym platform, designed around the user experience to incorporate active workout data. Rather than simply monitoring movement like most passive wearables, the Smart Rope incorporates the real, natural motion of jumping rope to accurately count jumps, track and recommend workout interval sessions, and calculate calories burned based on your body mass index (BMI). Design by Tangram Factory, Inc. http://tangramfactory.com http://facebook.com/smartrope Tangram Factory designs and manufactures products focused around the user experience, where leading technology and intuitive design help bring people closer together. Tangram Factory is a subsidiary of Tangram Design Lab, an award-winning multi-disciplinary design agency established in Seoul in 2008. Some of the world's leading brands use Tangram's experiences in their most iconic products. Tangram Factory has offices in Seoul and New Jersey.

This is my imagining of what circa '98 era minimal tech step drum 'n bass may have sounded like had it been invented before modern samplers and digital synths / fx. All the sound is being generated live, coming straight from the main mixer in the middle, with no multitracking. Sequenced by 3 vintage hardware sequencers, the Yamaha QX-1, Roland MC-4 and Roland MC-8 locked together by tape-sync. List of the main gear used : Sequencers : Roland MC-8, Roland MC-4, Yamaha QX-1 Modulars : Roland System 100 (Drums), Moog series 900 (pads), Roland System 700 (Basses), Arp 2500 system, Buchla 100 series. Other Synths : Korg MS-20, Roland System 100 standalone synth. FX : Roland Space Echo RE-501 (tape delay, chorus, spring reverb), Roland DC-30 (analog chorus-echo), Roland Dimension-D Analog Chorus.
