After the deep portion of our first dive with the GH4 (video: http://vimeo.com/105437270) we ascended, switched gas, and then turned the camera back on in the shallows. Couldn't get a good white balance using our normal method of balancing off of the white pages of our wet notes ("sample area too bright"), so we just set the WB to auto and corrected color in post. Cine-D profile at ISO 200 produced noticeable noise even in these bright conditions; again Neat Video easily removed the noise. Settings are below; we will be experimenting with more in-camera adjustments (sharpening, NR, etc.) going forward. Footage obtained with these settings has reasonable malleability in post, but contrast, color, and saturation, as well as sharpening and noise all need to be addressed in post. Perhaps some of this workload can be moved in-camera. The rig as we dove it: Panasonic GH4 Lumix 7-14mm lens Nauticam NA-GH4 housing 6” Acrylic dome port with focus knob Keldan Luna 8 lights on UL arms Camera Setings (just for information, not a recommendation): Cine-D picture style (hoping to gain a little in low light given the lens is not so fast) Auto White Balance UHD resolution at 29.97p (downscaled for web to 1080p) Picture style settings set to -5,-5,-5,-5,0 Pedestal at 0 Luminance 0-255 Highlight/shadow at zero ISO manual (between 200 and 400 trying to avoid noise) F stop between 11 and 22 Shutter speed at 60 (in hindsight we could have raised this) Focus using the partial shutter depress method Music: Castles In The Sky (Call Me Violet) By Crystal Marie Other divers appearing are Steve Millington and Gina Castillo

This is the deeper portion of a dive to 150fsw at Ship Rock near Catalina Island, California (shallow kelp garden portion of the dive: http://vimeo.com/105506829) This video before and after Neat Video: http://vimeo.com/106809836 The rig as we dove it: Panasonic GH4 Lumix 7-14mm lens Nauticam NA-GH4 housing 6” Acrylic dome port with focus knob Keldan Luna 8 lights on UL arms Camera Setings (just for information, not a recommendation): Cine-D picture style (hoping to gain a little in low light given the lens is not so fast) Custom white balance at depth on blank pages of wet notes UHD resolution at 29.97p (downscaled for web to 1080p) Picture style settings set to -5,-5,-5,-5,0(just for information, not a recommendation) Pedestal at 0 Luminance 0-255 Highlight/shadow at zero ISO manual (between 200 and 400 trying to avoid noise) F stop between 4 and 4.5 Shutter speed at 60 Focus using the partial shutter depress method Some noise in the source footage with these settings, but easily removed with Neat Video. Will be trying Cine-V next time; Cine-D seems to generate noise even at ISO 200 in low light. Again, Neat video easily cures this. No banding in the source footage, any banding is due to compression. Also will be stopping down slightly next time as f/4 results in some color bleed in the highlight areas and some slight edge distortion in some places. Keldan lights provided smooth coverage without visible edges even at 7mm.

                      Tags
