    • Domaine de Boisbuchet / Exhibitions 2012 / Maria Blaisse / Moving Meshes

This exhibition lies at the intersection of design, art, and movement. A series of Blaisse’s flexible bamboo structures and a video projection explore the ability of her forms to act as critical elements which animate the body and space. The artist Maria Blaisse’s bamboo forms are costume and sculpture, expanding, contracting, bouncing, and shifting during improvisations and performances. Strong yet delicate, their form is driven by sensitive material research and Blaisse’s masterful understanding of form. Parsons The New School for Design fellowship students (Nicolas Trujillo, Elizabeth Parker, Santiago Perazza and Laura Jane Kenny) collaborated with exhibition designer Mikaël Baillairgé in the design and installation of the exhibition. The fellowship program was developed by Parsons The New School for Design in collaboration with the Centre International de Recherche et d’Éducation Culturelle et Agricole (CIRECA). This exhibition was supported by DRAC Poitou-Charente.

      • Artist Talk: Sandy Kim

On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, Aperture Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Photography at Parsons the New School for Design, presented a talk with artist Sandy Kim. A self-identified “spark plug,” Kim authors images as provocative as they are insightful. Her subjects are her friends, and they revel in the casual pleasures of youthful antagonism. One image, in which two dirt-covered twenty-somethings smoke cigarettes, portrays outright youthful cynicism, in which health and hygiene are cast aside. Another image, in which a blue beam of light erupts from a woman’s head, playfully affects a sense of magical realism. For all the impatience and abuses depicted in Kim’s photographs, the radiant glow of humor, creativity, and possibility shines through.

This is my adaptation of a short story by Miranda July, by the same title. I found the short in a collection called 'No One Belongs Here More Than You'. The music is by K.C. Accidental, off of the album 'Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub'. This film stars Elizabeth Renstrom, and was my final for my 2D Narrative class. Parsons - Spring 2010
