1. 'The Pinnacles' Nightsky Timelapse

This sequence was shot back in August 2013 at the Nambung National Park in Western Australia. The area is known as 'The Pinnacles' due to the large number of eroded limestone formations that cover the landscape. The yellow light that the clouds are all rushing to is the city of Perth, which lies 150kms to the south. The rotation of the earth is taking the stars in the opposite direction which I think looks pretty cool :) About an hour after this sequence was shot the skies opened and the rain poured down for the rest of the night.

The incredibly grueling Pinnacles jungle trek at Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. It's only 2.4km / 1.5 miles to the summit, but to get there you have to climb up 1.2km / 0.75 miles of jungle madness. Put on your Indiana Jones hat, it's time to go on a crazy adventure! You immediately know you're in for it when the trail beings with a sheer rock wall and a dangling rope. From there on, it's a 7-8 hour roundtrip of scrambling over jungle roots, scaling limestone walls, climbing slippery ladders, sweating through every last inch of your clothing, balancing on narrow metal beams across crevasses, avoiding leeches and pit vipers (snakes! I hate snakes!), and earning every... single... last... step of the hike with your blood, sweat, and tears. The reward: a stunning view of the aptly named Pinnacles, natural giant limestone karst formations protruding like skyscrapers above the jungles of Borneo.

The Pinnacles is the remains of a petrified forrest, some 150km north of Perth, Western Australia. This collection of clips is at the end of the day and we were mucking around with fly overs with my friend and his cousin and her boyfriend. Some slow motion added with optical flow effect used in Final Cut Pro X. Still need to improve my workflow, but I like this...

In the lead up to the exhibit I filmed two Mad Max 2 enthusiasts as they revisited some locations from old behind the scenes photographs. Sitting in the back seat of their ex-army Mad Max 4-wheel drive I sensed they had become good friends through Mad Max, and I followed them as we traversed mountains, unused rocky trails and long straight roads in search of old sets. Produced by Jenia Ratcliffe, ABC Open Broken Hill.
