John Carpenter's fascination with the Western is evident in his work. He makes films that are all westerns, in quite the similar way that Cronenberg's films are essentially comedies, employing simplistic, straightforward framing, but telling dense, topical and far-reaching stories from such an informed, observational worldview. Thus, one of the most undervalued figures in American cinema. Follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ArmandDC Film Police Reviews: http://www.filmpolicereviews.com

The score for Bladerunner is very precious to me. I am a fan of Philip K. Dick, whose book the film was based on, and a fan of Ridley Scott. With the Bladerunner score, VANGELIS captures the very essence of a futuristic Los Angeles. Bells and chimes sparkle like lights adorning towering buildings, and his synths sing with a digital soul. This demo reel is my attempt to capture the essence of Vangelis' style while still leaving my own thumbprint on the final composition. The echoing bass throbs are a nod to John Carpenter's The Thing, the growling bass undercurrent a nod to Escape from New York. Everything else is a re-imagining of Vangelis' original score - trying to capture the essence of a brilliant composer.
