Monaye Love is an artist on the Reo Deo Label. This is an inspiring video for the world that reflects on the experiences our troops have returning home from serving their country. Monaye Love Website: http://www.monayelove.com Bio: Monaye Love hails from St. Paul, Minnesota. She started singing at age 8 and writing at age 11. Her musical influences range from the expected - Stevie Wonder, Jessie Johnson, The Time, Prince, Mazarati and Rachelle Ferrell -- to the unexpected -- The Andrew Sisters who were also Minnesota natives from the 1930s. Running out of the gate at full speed at 8 years old, Monaye sang the National Anthem at Alan Page's swearing in to the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1993. From then on, Monaye made it her mission to take advantage of every opportunity afforded to her in school. In junior high, she participated in singing contests, joined her school choir and band, continuously learned to play new instruments and learned a valuable lesson: instead of comparing herself to others, she focused on honing her own skills, finding her unique- ness. As her band teacher told her one day, "you were born for music." By the time Monaye reached high school, she was on her path adding studio recording to her list of musical experiences -- music was her passion and that was all she saw in her future. At age 16, Monaye was offered a recording deal, but was wisely counseled by her mother to turn it down and give herself more time to learn about life and estab- lish her own unshakable foundation. Monaye joined the Gospel group, James Grear & Nu Friends, recording an album with them that earned a Stellar nomination in 2008. She left the group soon after and began performing solo, open- ing up for major artists like Montel Jordan, Talib Kweli, Young Dro, Sunny Valentine and Twista. Monaye's debut single, "Finally Home," was borne from the experi- ence of her husband, Eric, returning home from Iraq where he served in the Air National Guard. It's often very difficult for war veterans to open up about their experiences to family and friends when they return, but Eric opened up to Monaye. She encouraged him to write it down for her. What Eric handed her on that piece of paper was revealing in its intensity and so inspirational to Monaye that she locked herself away with his words and emerged with a song that truly cap- tures what it feels like for these men and women when they come home after serving their country. Through a series of connections, "Finally Home" caught the attention of the Obama administration, as well as, various armed forces and veteran's oganizations who have offered their full support. Monaye joined forces with Producer Pepe' Willie, signing with his label, Reo Deo in 2013. "Finally Home", the first single release from her upcoming label, will be released September 10, 2013. I smelt your food from miles away (smells good ) No more talking on the phone sorry that you felt alone like Dorthy said No Place like home (Bridge) Taking a deep sigh I'm standing on the rule no man left behind 360 security I'm finally home embracing my family (Chorus) I'm finally on the way back home (I'm finally) I'm finally on my way back home (Back Home) I'm finally on the way I'm finally on my way home No more talking on the phone I miss you baby I love you I'm finally on the way I'm Finally (I'm finally) Yes I'm finally I'm finally on my way home. Making of a desk for my new iMac. How we, inmates of 'The White House' got it made and painted it ourselves. Detailed stuff on blog: http://ispeakbakwas.blogspot.in/2013/04/adventures.html (White house is a small apartment in Mumbai where I live with my three and half room mates. All of us graduated from the same college. When we first saw this house for the first time, we were awed by its whiteness in walls, roof and flooring, hence the name. We keep doing funny stuff and I keep posting that on my blog.)

The Gerald R Ford Foundation was honored to host former First Ladies Barbara Bush and Laura Bush during the traveling "The Legacies of America's First Ladies Conferences". The event coincided with the commemoration of Betty Ford's 95th Birthday and continued Gerald R. Ford's centennial birthday celebrations. Sponsored by American University, the National Archives and the Presidential Libraries, the conferences highlight the impact of our First Ladies on politics, policy and American culture. Anita McBride, Co-Chair of the First Ladies Conference and Executive-in Residence at the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University, spoke at the onset of the event regarding the conferences beginnings and success. The conference series began in November 2011 with events in Texas as part of the Presidential Library system that includes those for Lyndon B. Johnson, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Focusing on "the leaders behind the leaders", the conferences have highlighted the tremendous impact that First Ladies have left on our American way of life. Susan Ford Bales, daughter of Gerald and Betty Ford, introduced the former First Ladies. Ford spoke on the special, decades long relationship between the Ford and Bush families and three enduring moments that connected their families. The first moment was during President Ford's historic trip to China in 1975. There on the airport tarmac as they walked down the stairs in Beijing, The President, the First Lady and Susan smiled when they saw their friends Special Representative to China George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara. The Bushes stayed with the Fords the entire trip, and the Fords never forgot the personal care and kindness they received. The second event was in 2003 when Laura Bush hosted the Fords at The White House to celebrate Gerald R. Ford's 90th birthday, an enjoyable evening with friends and smiles. The third event was in 2007, just after the passing of Gerald R. Ford. While the Ford Family was in Washington, D.C. staying at the Blair House near The White House, the Bush family came to visit with the Fords without an entourage. It was just friends sitting together, and Susan recalls it was the first time in days that her mother had smiled. David Ferriero, Archivist of the United States moderated the conversation which mixed personal reflections of former First Lady Betty Ford and the Bushes time as First Ladies. His first question provided the former First Ladies to touch on their own view of what made Betty Ford great. Laura Bush said that Betty Ford's courage to publicly discuss her breast courage, allowed women to understand that preventative measures and treatments were not a negative, secret but something that was important to their health. At that time, women did not opening discuss breast cancer and Betty Ford was able to turn her own personal struggles into a greater good for our country. Barbara Bush mentioned that together she and Betty Ford were in the same International Club as their husbands were both in Washington, D.C. Also, Barbara mentioned how she knew Betty before, during and after Betty's addiction problems and that she hoped Betty knew that she had changed the world with her Betty Ford Clinic. The former First Ladies spoke about the personal reflections on numerous topics including Margaret Thatcher, the "place" of First Ladies with her position near The President, the campaigns of First Ladies such as education or healthcare, and their post office initiatives including national literacy programs and preparing to be First Lady of the United States. They also touched on how their families spent time together including their family properties in Kennebunkport, ME and Crawford, TX along with Camp David which the Bushes spent every Christmas together from 2001-2008. A favorite memory for both former First Ladies was the relationships built during their times at The White House with the staff who support the First Family. Both also are looking forward to the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas which was Laura Bush's alma mater. The former First Ladies believed in the importance of Presidential Libraries, much as Gerald & Betty Ford did, as preserving history for generations to come and promote an understanding of our American government.
