          A lovely spot for StarSat, the South African digital satellite TV provider we created the music for.… As the townspeople hover above the tiny Free State town of Clarens, and the sun’s rays catch the spectacular backdrop of the Maluti Mountains, the warm glowing colours of the Star Sat balloon hover into frame, and the words appear: ‘Change your view’ This is the tagline of the relaunch of TopTV into the South African pay television market, as StarSat, operated by On Digital Media (ODM). Promising its subscribers a new viewing experience with new content, new pricing structures and new packages – StarSat wants to be more than just a pay television operator. The company wants to get South Africans, who for decades have had limited choice of viewing owing to the cost of pay television – to change their view, to StarSat.

                  The latest RAC campaign from BBH turns a motorway breakdown service into the heroes of the summer holidays. The agency was tasked with the brief of demonstrating the RAC’s quality of service and ability to get drivers back on the road if they break down during the summer. The key difference was that rather than simply towing cars to a garage, the RAC patrols have the tools and parts to fix vehicles on the spot. The final creative concept ‘we don’t just tow you to a garage, we bring the garage to you’ conveyed this idea. Tools and spare parts were brought to life by a ‘Pied Piper’ in a spot directed by Passion Pictures’ Drew Lightfoot. The music brief was aimed at helping convey the notion of a military march as all the tools clambered into the van. The catchy whistling melody backed by Ukulele gave the spot a care free summer feel which was requested. Listen to the track in its entirety here to check our military chops.

                      The first RAC TV Commercial from BBH. Creative Directors Nick & Kevin brought thecomposers.tv in on the job to create the musical backdrop for this charming film. The film tells the story of a Car Breakdown and ‘charm’ was the lead keyword used to describe how the music needed to work, with a slight cue to the seasonality. Also, not wanting to lose the atmospheric winter ‘silence’ and underfoot ‘crunch’ of fallen snow, we delivered ultra-minimal pieces using composed & searched-for tracks. This piece was originally played on piano. However, to emphasise the requested seasonality a Celesta instrument was added to double up on the soft keyed piano. The two instrument’s work well together and the melodic phrasings dance nicely around the VO without interfering.
