In his book, In Darkest England and the Way Out, William Booth uses the "Cab Horse Charter" to illustrate how the poorest and neediest citizens in his native London were being neglected, and how to address the problem. In doing so, William Booth would lay the founding principals of The Salvation Army: If a man is down, he is helped up.

On Thursday June 11, 2015, The Salvation Army Citadel Corps Community Center's afterschool program hosted their end of year dance and music recital. The recital, themed "Dancing through the Decades," was an opportunity for children of all ages to display the skills they learned throughout the year in front of their community. The recital's program included dance routines, combined choruses and a variety of other musical and dance acts. Additionally, a group of four teenagers from the afterschool program debuted a musical production that they have been working on throughout the school year thanks to digital production software made available by The Salvation Army. In addition to the recital, UnitedHealthcare presented a $15,000 grant to fund the corps community center's afterschool program next year. As a proud partner of The Salvation Army, UnitedHealthcare hopes the grant will help the corps community center continue to benefit the lives of children throughout the community.

On June 13, 2015, Robert Myers, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of Philadelphia, was interviewed on the Fox 29 Weekend show while he was serving in Nepal. He had been deployed to Nepal to assist in The Salvation Army's recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake that had hit that country. As of June 22, 2015, The Salvation Army has continued to serve communities in and around Kathmandu following two earthquakes on April 25 and May 12 that killed 8,787 people and destroyed more than 500,000 homes. Emergency response teams of The Salvation Army have been serving survivors in the urban and rural areas with operations revolving around camps for displaced people, including camp management roles and the provision of food, shelter, and water. Teams are also assisting many remote mountainous villages that are now isolated due to landslides from the earthquakes and subsequent rains from monsoons. The Salvation Army has so far distributed 148 metric tons of food – including rice, oil, lentils and salt - to survivors, as many people have lost all of their food. This support will sustain families until the upcoming harvest. Additionally, hundreds of hygiene and sanitation items were distributed.
