It was 10 years ago this week, on November 18, 2004 that DJs Rahdu, Junior Star and the Goddess of all things fly - Neenah Medina along with the Soul Rebel Crew (Listed below) presented their very first edition of R.I.S.E. The Soul Rebels (of Birmingham) consisted of an ecclectic group of musicians, deejays, artists, and tastemakers that took the city by storm with a series of one-of-a-kind events, or "experiences" that soon became legendary in their own right. This monthly experience held at what was formerly The Loft in Birmingham, Alabama featured some of the city's and surrounding area's finest in visual art, live painting, local vendors, and the foundation of it all - MUSIC. With two floors of entertainment; one dj on the first floor, a dj on the second floor with live bands, spoken word artists and even a couple of surprise guests, this event was one filled with an abundance of creative energy, soulful vibes and beautifully spirited people. A massively wonderful time was had by all, from young to elders, from its conception until the venue's closing. Ask anyone about R.I.S.E and watch a glowing smile appear on their faces :) BIG Shouts to: The Soul Rebel Crew and Family (in no particular order): Roderick "DJ Rahdu" Moody, Tommy "Junior Star" Fluker, Neenah "Adrienne" Medina, Stacey Fluker, Pandora Hullett, Sharifa Whip, Michael Chambers II, Inas Mahdi, Lashondra Renea, Rakesha Garner, Simone Jones, Jenesia Bradley, SolarMoon CelestialGoddess aka Jerusalem Brown, Brian "Squeeze" Hill, Brian "Voice" Porter, Immanuel, and also our beloved Jessica Latten :) R.I.S.E.
