              From the BBC drama-doc 'The Somme: From Defeat To Victory', this clip examines the effect of the loss of Thiepval to the German offensive, and the Allies subsequent resurgence in 1916. The film was made by the (now sadly departed) BBC's in-house Documentary department, approaching from the battle from a unique viewpoint - how despite being defeated, the Allied armed forces took the lessons learned during fighting, and applied them in subsequent battles to eventually win the war against Germany.
