A slo-mo video from my iPhone of the ride into Kyoto...would have taken a longer video if it wasn't for the drunk rude Russians on the train. I was sitting in the aisle, and I noticed that there was a window seat open, so I moved over to it to grab some footage...shortly after I began filming I looked up and this Russian woman with the most hateful look I have ever seen was glaring at me. I assumed it was her seat even though she didn't say anything. Anywho, I went back to my seat, and watched as she shot some (I'm sure crappy photos), and then returned to her own seat. If I had known Russian, I totally would have told her where to shove it.

I've been after doing this for a while. One of the Monorails in Tokyo is fully automated meaning you can get the absolute front seat on any trip, monorails leave this looping circuit every ten or so minutes so there's not really a rush on any given day, and if there is, just wait until the next monorail arrives, simple. I set the Canon 5D3 on a home made beanbag, a ziplock 3/4 full of rice to allow some give and for the camera to settle. For the intervalometer I used my SYRP Genie Motion Control unit. I simply set the overall trip time which is 3o minutes and then took a shot every 4 seconds for the entire trip. I did have some issues, exposure wise when stopping at stations etc but you'll see there are no stops in the finished piece as I took them out. Given the speed of the motion and the fact that I added some motion blur the viewer cannot really notice the individual frames and any imperfections there may have been such as slight movement of the camera due to a bump in the track or the massive difference in shutter speed compensating for the light drop off when pulling into stations. For editing I used Adobe Lightroom and the amazing LRTimelapse plug in for editing the main piece. I strongly recommend people to look at that software. I'm a relative noob to timelapse but it's a breeze with this editing procedure. Settings wise I traveled in the mid afternoon as I was planning to head to one of the skyscrapers in Tokyo for sunset, nailed it, so I went with lots of light. ISO160 f8 and for the most part around 1/250th - 1/400th but sometimes massively different due to heading directly into the sun or parked in crazy dark stations. Total frames was 1,280 over the return journeys. Cheers

                      What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
