        • Tom Huck's Hillbilly Kama Sutra

          from Voice Media Group Added

St. Louis-based and nationally collected and exhibited printmaker Tom Huck discusses his newest suite, "The Hillbilly Kama Sutra." A series of 14 linoleum cut prints, each 16 inches square, "The Hillbilly Kama Sutra" explores two of Huck's predominant obsessions -- the residents of rural America and the various ways they "get it on." Huck allowed Riverfront Times to give the suite its widespread St. Louis debut in the pages of its April 12, 2012, print edition citing the precedent of earlier artists Posada and Daumier, who likewise reached a wider audience with their works of social commentary by publishing their prints in the newspapers of their day. Huck was also profiled by Ian Froeb in the January 17, 2007, RFT article "Evil Ink."

EVIL PRINTS is proud to present a new suite of 14, 16″x 16″ linoleum cuts by Tom Huck entitled, “The Hillbilly Kama Sutra”. Having taken over 2 years to complete, “The Hillbilly Kama Sutra” is Huck’s first portfolio of prints since 1998′s seminal, “2 Weeks in August: 14 Rural Absurdities”. Housed in a black velvet lined portfolio made of paneling and duct tape, this signed and numbered limited edition set of 20 will be an essential addition to any collection of contemporary prints. As an added bonus, collectors who purchase the complete set will get a 15th “mystery print”. The mystery print will only be available in the portfolio set. “The Hillbilly Kama Sutra” is part of a long tradition of thematically unified suites in the history of printmaking. Inspired by artists such as Hogarth, Holbein, and Goya, Huck has chosen the timeless theme of sex, albeit with a slight “hillbilly” twist. “The Hillbilly Kama Sutra” is now available from Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art in Kansas City, MO. info@sherryleedy.com The 15 print portfolio is available for $11,500. Join Midwest artist Tom Huck as he takes the viewer on a ride of images from the back roads of rural America. Combining dark humor while channeling Albrecht Dürer, virtually any German Expressionist, and Frank Zappa, his work presents a satirical view of small-town life in our region. Huck lives and works in St. Louis where he runs his press, Evil Prints. A regular contributor to BLAB! of Fantagraphics and the illustrator of The Roots’ Phrenology album art, his work has been described as outlaw printmaking, pushing the boundaries of technique and content. Mr. Huck spoke at the Ulrich Museum of Art on November 17, 2009.
