Short film I shot in one afternoon alone in my Los Angeles apartment with my cat. Testing the boundaries of sound, and suggestion in creating suspense in cinema. Directed By: Ben Alagna www.BenAlagna.com Camera: Panasonic Lumix GH4, Metabones speedbooster, Sigma 18-35mm lens. Cinema 4k 24p, CinelikeD, ISO 200-400 (depending on the shot) Shutter 1/50. In Thailand, I took a photo and take it to make Tornado effect scene. This project is created by Maya2008, Particle and Particle Instancer, control particle by Expression(MEL Script). By checking distance between particle instancer(wood, roof, window this house) and Locator that move along Tornado. First, Model windows swing with Expression(MEL) and switch to move along particle when impacted by Tornado. Rendered by mentalray and composited by AfterEffect.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. It was suppose to be 4 missiles hitting the overpass. Don't ask me how a Tornado and a few trucks got involved. The Overpass was Modeled in MAX. RayFire was used for the Destruction. Fumefx was used for the ground impact smoke and Fire ball. The tornados were also created by Fumefx. The debri flying around the tornado was created using Particle Flow. The secondary dust & smoke were from Action Essentials 2. collection. I basically put them on cards in 3d space using the 3D point cloud data for their 3D location. Although I used After effects to composite, I really would have loved to use NUKE. When you have 80 layers in after Effects, scrolling up & down to locate a file is a PAIN. With nuke, It would have been so easy to locate files. When I make the final changes to it,, I plan on posting the VFX Break Down too.

Tornado scene i've created in Houdini apprentice for personal project and learning reasons. Scene details: - main tornado funnel - driven by custom velocity force, 80M voxels, 50 Gb of cache files, 8h - simulation - clouds - also driven by custom velocity force, 70M voxels, 40 Gb of cache files, 7h - simulation Tornado and clouds were rendered together and took 35 hours. Final project also included house demolition simulation, few particle setups (flying debris, dust around tornado and sand in front of camera). Thank you for watching!

So this was a free-time project that me and a lighter I work with were going to put together a few months ago. It got left behind because it was too time consuming to do in our spare time. Although there are many problems with it, If we had the time I think it could've turned out great. I have never made a tornado before so I did a learn a lot from this. We had no time for revisions so excuse the obvious problems. Originally we had planned on it being in it's full funnel-state(which explains why it doesn't descend from the top). One of the things that I did was use Fume 3's ability to use Render-Warps to emphasize the twisting look. The biggest problem I found was using geometry to emit smoke. Not that it was a problem but if you look at the top funnel you can see it causing blinking (due to the render-warp). My best advice would be to layer it into different sim grids, because it's way easier to do parts than trying to fight 1 giant sim.
