A short cutout animation of a lost toy robot. The animation is painted in gouache and instead of using a jointed character, the robot is free form and is animated with subtle changes of his individual parts under a camera.

A toy robot's wonderful day off gets interrupted by the massive world around him. This is my animated student film from my year in the Vancouver Film School's 3D Animation & Visual Effects program. From conception to completion I created this piece in a six month period. I did everything visual in this piece including the designs, modeling, rigging, layout, animation, lighting, rendering, and compositing work.

This little robot follows a black line drawn on a white background. How did we do it? The two (black) Distance Sense Cubelets change the speed of their associated (clear) Drive Cubelets, causing the robot to turn when one of the Sense Cubelets begins to cross the line. The (green) Blocker Cubelet in the middle keeps the signals from the Sense Cubelets separate, and the Knob Cubelet on top allows for tuning the robot's sensitivity. The two Bar Graph Cubelets on each side aren't strictly necessary but they make it look more like a robot, and they do show what's going on. What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
