          from Elektrobahn Added 8,218 42 3

4 minute snip of a 25+ minute live analog session elektrobahn is a studio and live performance project that works completely with old school cv gate and pre-first gen midi. all the vintage gear that's in the rack you see here and on elektrobahn.com is pre 85. the moogerfoogers, dp4 and orb sequencer (which has switched out to a doepfer maq) obviously are not vintage, so we bent the rules a bit. in the studio we employ a couple of tape echos, mutrons and other vintage effects. the point of the project is sentimental in regard to a fascination with the simplistic mechanics of old gear, modulated with the aesthetics and sonic sensibilities of the 21st century. its very much a modular approach which is popular again. everything is multi track recorded in one pass to a computer. there is no manipulation of the sequence. it's eq'd and slightly compressed. why, you ask? to some, this might seem tedious, and too simple to achieve a well rounded track. to us, the focus is it's simplicity. it's about interesting harmonics and the strange behavior of circuits and it's effect on air molecules as they beat the shit out of the studio/gallery/warehouse walls... gear heard on this recording: korg ms10, korg sq10, moogerfooger fx, roland tr-808, akai ax60, akai s612, moog memorymoog, ensoniq dp4 all video recorded & edited by Elektrobahn with Canon 5D mk II & Final Cut Pro. http://www.elektrobahn.com

            from Gijs Added 4,515 7 0

Audio processing the tr-808 with the HSS. In the beginning it uses a chopper effect (i don't know the common name for this type of effect..). The HSS chops up the input signal, and plays the short loops after another. Then there is a ring modulator effect And in the end there is a bit crusher effect, with a legato sweep between the changes. http://gieskes.nl/instruments/?file=hard-soft-synth-1

                from Gijs Added 4,077 30 5

In the first part of the video the DEP-1 pitch shifts the incoming sound as an arpeggiator in different sequences. Then there is a mode that samples on a threshold, and plays the samples back.. then there is this mode with feedback.. and then i switch to regular delay with variable sample playback/record speed.

                  from FlipMu Added 3,791 22 3

This tutorial looks at building Kick drums based off the classic TR-808 and TR-909. The tutorial goes over how to calculate Freq and Q (Quality Factor) from reading schematics. The video also shows how to modify the Core static BP filter to use Q values instead of Resonance. To see how to do the same thing for BandWidth (BW), see our previous video on Vocoders vimeo.com/59133221 The video also points out the excellent tutorials for building a TR-909 Kick at http://www.nireaktor.com/reaktor-tutorials/how-to-make-a-909-kick-in-reaktor/

                  • How to sync a Juno 60 arpeggio with stuff you've already got

                    from 6am Added 2,839 8 5

So what you do is feed a short, loud sound into the Arpeggio Clock In of a Juno 60 (or 6, I assume) - and whenever the sound is played it will trigger the next note in the Juno's Arpeggiatorater buffer. Don't think it matters terribly what the sound is - I'm using a rimshot here - the key to the sound is that it's loud and short and bippy. Course the best thing about this is being able to trigger the arpeggio irregularly, and also if you feed LONG sounds in then you get weird commodore 64 style smearings as the notes trigger too fast - which is quite good too. All in all I can't believe I didn't try this already. I'm not that clever ysee - real credit goes to http://www.em411.com

                    • Fenix II and III

                      from splitradix Added 2,325 12 2

Here's a video of the new Fenix II synthesiser and the Fenix III sequencer with some 808 action thrown in for good measure. The Fenix was recorded without effects, it has its own built in analogue delay that I messed with a bit. The main melody is being played by the Akai MPC 1000 and the Fenix III sequencer is modulating the formant filter.
