1. Transparencies by Regis Colombo

The images from the “Transparencies” series borrow both from the pictorial tradition and the most modern photographic process of digital fusion. Like a documentary, with moments of eternity captured by the photographer, and, at the same time, a daydream in which the traveller’s good and bad memories have blended, Régis Colombo’s compositions reproduce the quintessence of the places he has visited and question our visual memory.

Exploring techniques and styles in After Effects. This video mainly involved motion tracking, compositing, keying, a little use of 3D layers and some photoshop work to create the photo transparencies. The photograph used is Blossom Gate, Kilmallock and is a copyright free image from the National Library of Ireland: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/ Pros: - Nice clean way of displaying old images - Hand movements and gestures could be used unlimited number of times. - Can create a multi layered image of a variety of elements To improve: - The way I've created the transparencies (using the blend mode on multiply) means layers can become muddy when moving across each other. Fix this by creating a white mask behind the top layer. - For longer video would need shots of hands putting down / picking up transparencies (photo distorting), Projection light bulb and flare, Maybe someone sitting at desk in the dark looking at images through a microscope - if this shot would use noise and distortion vignette.

[Accordance 10: Basic] Remember the old Bible map transparencies of yesteryear? There's a reason they aren't around any longer. In 1998 Accordance launched its interactive and customizable Bible Atlas, the first of its kind in Bible study software. Using the metaphor of transparent layers, Accordance's Atlas offered unequaled flexibility and ease of use. Today the Atlas remains one of Accordance's most popular resources. It includes a dozen different backgrounds, thirty region layers, seventy-five routes (most of them animated), thirteen site collections, and six sample layers, as well as continuous elevation and geographic coordinate readouts and rotatable 3D perspectives. Users can even create their own map layers! Join Dr. J as he offers this retrospective look at the Accordance Atlas.
