Design in Motion, a collaboration with the Travelling Gallery, is part of our pre-opening programme. The designers featured all use digital technologies to push the boundaries of their discipline, enabling them to experiment, play and innovate. The exhibition demonstrates how design can be put to work to reconstruct our heritage, visualise the unseen, and create products not previously possible. You can also watch the film on the V&A Dundee channel: https://vimeo.com/120054477 Geoffrey Mann - Products in Motion Currently Programme Director in Glass at Edinburgh College of Art, Mann’s work has been exhibited and collected by institutions around the world including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Crafts Council of England. In 2008 he won the World Craft Council Prize for Glass and in 2009 was awarded the Jerwood Contemporary Makers Prize. Mann is fascinated by transforming the ephemeral nature of time and motion, such as the flight of a bird or the fluttering of a moth, into forms that we can see and hold using photographic and digital technologies. mrmann.co.uk/ Design in Motion was developed in partnership with the Travelling Gallery and generously supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, The Mathew Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund, Creative Scotland, The Scottish Government, and City of Edinburgh Council.

'Impossible Nation' sees the National Galleries of Scotland's Outreach Team join forces with the Travelling Gallery to take a riotous visual collage of twisted national identity on tour around Scotland. The follow up to 2009's Scottish National Portrait Gallery exhibition, 'Rough Cut Nation', this explosion of images reveals a contemporary narrative of the Scottish nation, reconfiguring key figures and events to form an alternative and inclusive re-description of the nation’s story.
