"Dead End Street" along with "22nd Street", Ben is Dead, and "Star" marked a whole new direction for the band in Deep contrast from May 1990's "Immorally Moral" which was recorded in the band's Original "Natural" incarnation and classic three piece Line up with Guitarist_Phil_Keegan (Dr. Phil); "When me and Ted made the impossibly difficult painful (And many now say stupid) decision to move away from the hard rock and metal ways of the band with Flipper, we were entering bizarre unknown territory,..suddenly< I wasn't a Drummer anymore,..I was the Guitarist and I had to quickly "Learn" the instrument ,..which i really only previously had dabbled with,...it was scary new domain,..and plus I had to come up with all these songs and ALL BY MYSELF,..pretty much,..as Ted really wasn't much of a Songwriter,..thats not a knock against him necessarily,...he 'is' a Great musician and bassist,....but I had to come up with writing ideas that were damn good,...fortunately, I had alot built up over the years,..."Ben is dead" and "Hey Negrita" instantly worked and were sudden quick classics that we badly needed !!,..."America the Beautiful", Gods Joke, and Wilson Phillips just came with evolution ,...Me and Ted put "Wilson" together,..Ted did some writing there,...then, it came time for us to find drummers,..ofcourse these new drummer dudes did not know that I was the previous Drummer in G.e. - which was weird in itself !,...Marty Silva was stunned when I told him and Greg Tarpley never believed it,..til he saw the video of us jamming with Keegan and he called me laughing and saying "Wow dude,..you ARE GOOD" ....I went into a different studio to try to get a bigger sound shortly after Legit,...I felt the sound was too tinny and Who Tommy Like,..it wasn't heavy enough ,..though I did feel that "22nd Street" was about as good and excellent as G.e. could ever Get,....anyway, I remember that Me and Billy Krodel sat down in about April May of 91' and I was showing him this whole new songwriting idea that I wanted to sound "Bigger" Like REM Meets the Stooges ,..it was an idea that i was showing Phil Keegan since about 1989 or '90,...I remember that I already had the lyrics to it ready to go ,..and they were pretty much the same words - with no changes - from 89' and 90,...I remember that Phil Keegan thought the song (And my other ones too) was so bad that he labeled it "Silly-Pop" or 'Bubblegum", ...the new Song was called "White Black Thang".... The Connected Dashboard is a design provocation done in collaboration with IDEO. The challenge was to maintain a positive experience for Zipcar's growing and heterogenous user community, specifically addressing the friction that arises from a driver returning a shared car late. We favored using community carrots over corporate sticks. We use the warmth and reach of physical and social networking channels to amplify the sense of community among a group of strangers, through the vehicle they share. Playing off of Zipcar's habit of naming its cars, we give them a voice as well through Twitter and connected dashboard objects - a dynamic hula girl and a 'happiness' gauge. This allows drivers to get, and send, the right information at the right time and place in order for the whole operation to flow smoothly -- in a friendly, human manner. Starring Jeff, Julie, Edmunds the Zipcar, and a dashboard hula girl.
