      Friends, family members and former high school coaches were on hand Saturday, Oct. 11, 2013, to watch Central Valley graduate Bre Mackie record 10 kills and six blocked shots for Long Beach State, including one to close out a come-from-behind victory in the second game (or set, if you prefer), as the 49ers defeated the host UC Davis Aggies 3-1. Long Beach State won the Big West Conference match 18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 to snap a three game losing streak and even their overall record on the season to 9-9 (2-3 Big West).           The Montana Grizzlies spoiled homecoming for UC Davis as they defeated the Aggies 42-7 on Oct. 12, 2013. The Aggies feature a trio of north state athletes in No. 79 Jimmy Kunkel (2009 Central Valley High graduate) who starts at right guard and No. 86 Taylor Sloat (2010 Fall River High graduate) who plays tight end. Also on the Aggies is No. 20 running back Colton Silveria (2010 Central Valley High graduate). Silveria, coming off a hip injury, has mostly been playing on special teams this year following the emergence of walk-on running back Gabe Manzanares.             Four north state athletes are playing this season for the UC Davis Aggies football team: sophomore right guard and 2009 Central Valley High School graduate Jimmy Kunkel (No. 79); red shirt freshman running back and 2010 Central Valley High School graduate Colton Silveria (No. 20); true sophomore tight end and 2010 Fall River High School graduate Taylor Sloat (No. 86); and sophomore right guard and 2009 West Valley High School graduate Al Doiron (No. 72). All four played Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in a home game against North Dakota at Aggie Stadium. North Dakota won the defensive battle 14-7.                 DAVIS - It was a big day for three north state athletes at the 59th annual Causeway Classic played here Nov. 17, 2012. UC Davis tight end Taylor Sloat (Fall River High School 2010) caught a career-high seven passes for 109 yards and caught the winning touchdown, while teammate and running back Colton Silveria (Central Valley High School 2010) rushed for team-high 88 yards on 17 carries in the Aggies 34-27 win over the Sacramento State Hornets. Also starting for Davis is right guard Jimmy Kunkel (Central Valley High School 2009). With the win, the Aggies sent head coach Bob Biggs out on a winning note following a 30-year career at Davis. Sloat, meanwhile, capped the season off by being named as one of seven Aggies to receive Honorable Mention in the All-Big Sky Conference selections. He also was named co-Outstanding Offensive Player (along with wide receiver Anthony Soto) at the team's annual post-season banquet.
