Opportunity in Action is a summit organized by the College Republicans at UC Merced, funded by the Associated Students of UC Merced. Our Inaugural Summit is on April 4th, 2014 at UC Merced. The summit is designed to provide valuable insight, build new relationships, and foster a community of action. The Opportunity in Action Inaugural Summit will feature San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, the first Latino to ever deliver the keynote at the Democratic National Convention in 2012, and syndicated writer Ruben Navarrette, Jr. Navarrette will interview Mayor Castro on trending topics, such as immigration, education, job creation, economic development and health care. Navarrette will also ask Castro about his personal life especially his politically active family. We will hear what it means for Castro to have a mother who helped established the La Raza Unida party in the early seventies and a twin brother Joaquin who is currently serving as a United States Congressman. Mayor Castro will get the chance to question Navarrette on his journalistic career and political views. Afterwards, the audience will have a chance to ask questions to Castro and Navarrette in a Q&A session. Stay update to with everything happening by liking our Opportunity in Action Facebook Page (https://facebook.com/liveopportunity).
