In Toronto's Nordheimer Ravine, an environment of thick brush and dead wood flattens into fields of colour. Its paths lead to Winston Churchill Park, where the entrance to a city reservoir overlooks a green vale. This film was made in the UltraPan8 format. It was composed using a 3.1:1 widescreen frame. The film was processed at Niagara Custom Lab. The resulting footage was digitized by John Gledhill of Bit Works Inc. The camera, modified by Jean-Louis Seguin, was provided by Nicholas Kovats. Post-production was completed at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto. Screenings: 08/03/14 - Um-Um Festival, Stara Lubovna, Slovakia http://niagaracustomlab.com/ http://lift.ca/ http://bitworks.org/ http://facebook.com/UltraPan8WidescreenFilm

I have added additional UltraPan8 footage from 2011 and 2012 to my prior Super 8 film called "I Felt Your Pulse". This is evolving into a ongoing record dedicated to Darcy Allan Sheppard. An event has been organized scheduled for 5:00 pm tomorrow evening on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Old City Hall in downtown Toronto called "Sit In For Michael J. Bryant's Lack Of Due Process". The Facebook organized event can be found her, i.e http://www.facebook.com/events/418255131531952/. Michael Bryant was our former provincial Attorney General (Ontario Liberal Party) and also former Aboriginal Minister who killed Darcy Allan Shepard, an Aboriginal cyclist and courier back in 2009. The case was never brought to trial, evidence was never tested and Bryant walked free, And still maintains political ambitions. As per http://bryantwatch.wordpress.com/ One of the best commentaries and actually written by a lawyer no less,i.e. http://bicycling.com/blogs/roadrights/2009/09/16/when-worlds-collide/. It is my pleasure to introduce the inaugural UP8 test roll of a new US based UltraPan8 filmmaker by the name of Glenn Brady. And what a test roll! I suspect these stupendous ultrawide images will generate a tangible excitment. These careful classic tripod mounted compositions are breathtaking. A slightly wider version of classic Cinemascope if you may. Glenn shot these UP8 images in beautiful Chimney Rock State Park in North Carolina, USA. The 500mm shot of the moon's surface is glorious. Please note that the visible registration issue is being assessed by Jean-Louis Seguin in Montreal. Technical issues not withstanding the compositional beauty of these UP8 images supercede them.

I had so much fun chasing 2012 Ice Bike participants on my skates and with my UltraPan8 camera! Tracking, following and skating among these enthusiastic winter cyclists was a thrill. Great crowd and estimates that close to $1,000 was raised for charity, i.e http://www.charliesfreewheels.ca/ Thanks to Alistair Crombie for shooting this hdslr clip. It was great to see Martin. I present my first filmic "sketch" utilizing the UltraPan8 film format. The short film is called "my memories of her are missing". UltraPan8 is a native 2.8:1 spherical ultrawide film format utlizing hybrid Bolex H8/H16 cameras. 1. The format uses 2-perf R8mm film that is 16mm wide and the 1/2 pulldown of the 8mm gate. 2. Running time is doubled relative to standard 16mm filmstock as there are 80 UltraPan8 frames per 16mm foot as opposed to 40. 3. Standard 16mm optics provided full coverage optically centered. 4. The "imaging" area is increased by 90-100% Relative to 8mm/S8 film. 5. This film is an edited version of the 1700x600 DIVX extraction from the master 2080x870x24 sequential jpegs.

This is the full resolution overscanned 2080x780 pixels x 24bit depth sequential jpegs source file converted to MPEG4 for viewing purposes regarding the inaugural UltranPan8 test roll recently loaded. This newest upload removes an additional level of compression, i.e. 1. original upload conversion/compression path: UltraPan8 film -> 2080x780 pixels x 24bit depth sequential jpegs -> DIVX (mpeg4) 2.8:1 extraction -> YouTube/Vimeo compression 2. New upload conversion/compression path: UltraPan8 film -> 2080x870 pixels x 24bit depth sequential jpegs -> YouTube/Vimeo compression http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6yb1zsjJYw http://vimeo.com/27492482 Camera mod provided by Jean-Louis Seguin. The scan was delivered by John Gledhill of bitworks.org utilizing his sprocketless 16mm transfer bay. Note that the ultra-wide native frame dimensions of UltraPan8 = 10.52mm x 3.75mm w/ AR = 2.8:1. The file is also available for public download and examination here, i.e. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29307178/Squential%20JPEGS%2018fps%20MPEG4.mp4 Note the impressive density of information contained in this minimal latitude reversal film stock, i.e. Ektachrome 100D.
