Because I clearly didn't have enough bows, I bought myself a Samick Sage for Christmas this year. It actually arrived on Tuesday, and I've been playing around with it, often in the middle of the night, in my slippers, when it's in the 20s outside. Yeah. You're reading the words of a crazy person. In any case, I have chosen to use the stock dacron string for the time being, just to see what it's like, as delivered. I'm using Easton Carbon Storm 500 arrows here, and the puffs on the string are nylon linesman's twine, to quiet the bow down. I think they've done a good job. Other details...I have a Bear Hair rest on the bow, and calfskin string groove pads. Bow is 40#. Liking it a lot so far. It will be part of additional videos. Music here is "Give back the key to my heart" by Uncle Tupelo.

                    • Low Fidelity High

                      01:18:19

                      from Charles Cors Added

Made in 1993 for $52, "Low Fidelity High" won a Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago Film Festival. This 80-minute 'videofilm' tells the tragic story of a kid who comes to New York City looking for a woman--the love of his life--who he met many years ago. The film was shot in New York City on Hi-8 video using a technique in which I would film scenes "straight", transfer them to VHS, and then re-shoot the sequences off the television. In this way I was able to achieve slo-motion and other effects in an age when digital editing was not yet something that was affordable for the non-professional filmmaker. Sonically, the movie is based upon a body of music that would be called lo-fi--and hence the film's name. The main character--Bucket--is always sound-tracking his life with the music that plays in his Walkman, music of the American lo-fi underground circa 1993. While the movie has many flaws, I am proud of the way that it still holds together as a compelling cinematic experience.
