Oklahoma families are struggling on a daily basis to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Parents are working multiple jobs and skipping meals just so they can make sure their children are fed. The average family size we serve is three with at least one person working one or more jobs to make ends meet. The average annual income is $12,130 – well below the poverty line. They have tough decisions to make every day: whether to fill up the car or put food on the table; whether to pay the utilities or put food on the table; whether to pay the rent or put food on the table. All it takes is one illness, one dead car battery or one rent hike and they can no longer take care of their family without help.

                    • Vision for employment - Rod Burt - Independent candidate for Dunkley

                      from Rod Burt / Added

                      20 Plays / / 0 Comments

Rod Burt has been a proud Frankston resident for over 40 years, serving his country in Vietnam and then his community as a state primary school teacher who taught in Langwarrin and Frankston for most of his 29-year career. Burt is a Frankston RSL Full member and is the long-serving treasurer of Frankston Baseball Club and an ex-treasurer of Frankston YCW Cricket Club. Burt trained as a Personal Care Attendant to work in nursing homes. He also cared for his mother-in-law during her latter stages of decline. He is married to his wife Gay and has four tertiary-educated children, each of whom attended St. Francis Xavier primary school and then Frankston High School. Rod detests spin, voters being taken for granted/fools and, as a former teacher, errant apostrophes. He supports social justice. Unlike mainstream parties, Rod is a firm believer in bipartisanship to get things done, respects compromise and is deeply committed to independent rational thought. He sees important issues for Dunkley surrounding under- and un-employment, small business, and funding of social housing and transport. The electorate of Dunkley is named after Louisa Dunkley 1866–1927, founder of the Victorian Women's Post and Telegraph Association in 1900 and campaigner for equal pay for women. HE thinks they would have gotten on.
