    • The Royal Society of Literature: Passing on the word

      05:04

      from Paul Wyatt Added

Paul Wyatt was invited by the Royal Society of Literature (the RSL) to make a short film about their work over 2014 and 2015 . The RSL’s principle requirement was for a film which would nod towards the society’s 200 year past but would also bring the society right up to date by showing their progressive educational work. Paul Wyatt attending the RSL new fellows signing ceremony where fellows are inducted into the society by signing a book containing the signatures of famed authors from the last two centuries of fellowship. The society’s outreach programme was highlighted with a visit with former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion to George Green’s school in London’s East End. Novelist Kamila Shamsie also held a masterclass on “writing the unfamiliar” for new authors at Somerset House. Novelists Philip Pullman, Hilary Mantel and biographer Sir Michael Holroyd also feature in the film alongside RSL president Colin Thubron.

What a night. Our London debut, in the stunning Union Chapel in Islington, with people queueing down the road to get in (and having to turn people away as we'd sold out). It was one awesome gig (featuring c.50 London singers and a brilliant house band) with an electic set list leaping from The National, Arcade Fire, Bruce Cockburn and Goldfrapp to Vampire Weekend, Kings of Leon, Elbow & Sigur Rós. Described by the press as "a harmonic phenomenon bursting onto the scene like a firecracker" and "gorgeous, soaring, ethereal", and by our fans as ‘explosive’, ‘a tour de force’, ‘ebullient’, ‘witty’ and ‘sensational’. Come get gigged with The Dowsing Sound Collective. www.thedowsingsoundcollective.com www.twitter.com/dowsingforsound www.facebook.com/thedowsingsoundcollective With massive thanks to our sponsors - Bobby Aitken, Autograph Sound, Richard Wolfstrome & Paul Cook Film

KATATONIA RELEASE CONCERT FILM ‘SANCTITUDE’ – RECORDED AT LONDON’S UNION CHAPEL BLU-RAY, CD+DVD, 2LP & DOWNLOAD In September 2013 Kscope released Dethroned & Uncrowned, a reworking of the band's 2012 epic Dead End Kings (originally released on Kscope’s sister label Peaceville). Dethroned & Uncrowned allowed Katatonia the opportunity to explore a more progressive sound, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the core of the original songs. Katatonia took Dethroned & Uncrowned on the road in Europe for the first time in May 2014 under the moniker ‘Unplugged & Reworked’. They presented an intimate acoustic evening, performing tracks from the album alongside atmospheric classics from their entire career, stripped and reworked. Each venue, on the tour, was carefully chosen for its unique atmosphere. They were joined on guitar & vocals by The Pineapple Thief frontman and songwriter Bruce Soord. Sanctitude is a concert film filmed and recorded in the stunning candle-lit setting of London’s Union Chapel. The 80 minute set features 17 songs across the albums The Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness, Brave Murder Day, Last Fair Deal Gone Down and of course, Dead End Kings / Dethroned & Uncrowned, including fan favourite ‘Teargas’. The show closes with the sublime ‘The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here’ and a special guest appearance by Norwegian vocalist Silje Wergeland of Dutch legends The Gathering. Katatonia’s Anders Nystrom comments on the release“As a band we set out on uncharted waters but while apprehensive about the journey ahead our intentions couldn't have been more genuine to undertake this beautiful experience. Sailing this project into harbour turned out to be bliss and has ultimately enriched all the members of Katatonia.” All audio on Sanctitude has been mixed & mastered by Bruce Soord. With artwork once more supplied by long-time visual collaborator Travis Smith. from Endwell Productions Added 10 0 0

This film by Mauricio Vincenzi (Endwell Productions) was produced as part of the Artist in Residency Programme he participated between 2003-4, during the four year long English Heritage restoration project between 2000-4. The programme was established as a way of sharing with the local community the progress of the restoration whilst the work was carried out and the building remained closed to the public. This 1730 Grade I Listed Church by the Architect Thomas Archer and described by John Betjeman as “a pearl at the heart of Deptford”, is a remarkable and important example of English Italianate Baroque. The church is one of those built following the 1711 Act for building new churches in London and its suburbs. These are generally known as the Queen Anne churches. Other Queen Anne churches include: James Gibbs’ St. Mary-le-Strand, John James’, St George’s, Hanover Square and Nicholas Hawksmoor’s churches at S. Alfege, Greenwich; Christ Church, Spitalfields; S. Ann’s, Limehouse and S. George’s in the East.. Music by Darren Morris, played live in Sept 2014 at the Union Chapel's unique organ: built in 1878 by Henry Willis, it is considered one of the finest unaltered examples of his work.
