Jesus tells us that we are to love one another, the way that Christ loved the disciples. But in 1844, The Methodist Episcopal Church split over the issue of slavery. Today The United Methodist Church is facing a possible split over the issue of homosexuality. Maybe if we would listen to Christ and love one another, stop spewing hatred on BOTH sides of the issue we could actually live like the Church of Jesus Christ. What we need is to love the way that our mothers love: unconditionally.

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

Acts 2:36-41 36Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.’ The First Converts 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ 38Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ 40And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ 41So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.. In his letter to the church at Rome, Paul warned believers against judging others who chose not to eat meat offered to idols. It seems that both eating meat offered to idols AND abstaining from such food honored God, depending on the heart of the believer. It seems that eating (or not eating) meat offered to idols is not an essential belief of the Christian faith. Do we have everything figured out so that the world is black and white or do we struggle in the gray areas to grow in our relationship with God?
