This is my final piece for my degree in BA Digital Media Design at the University of Brighton. Essentially it is a remake and reboot of Nam June Paik's 1971 piece "The Wobbulator" (viewable here: http://vimeo.com/16906546) with an added Max/MSP software interface, Arduino controlled selectable "channels" and webcam input. Apologies for the slightly uninteresting presentation, but operating it and filming it was kinda tricky!

Tony Slinger, a bespoke shoe maker spares his time to speak about his career history and the traditional methods used for producing some of Yorkshires finest leather shoes. Tony is the last remaining bespoke shoe maker in all of Yorkshire, working with clients from all over the United Kingdom, sourcing his leather goods from J & FJ Baker and Co Ltd Working with Tony was a fantastic experience and helped me greatly in developing my story telling skills for future projects. This film was produced as part of a 3rd year University module in which we were given the openness to produce anything that we wanted. I spent several months looking for contacts until Tony was generous enough to provide his time. I hope that you enjoy the video and the story that Tony has to tell, thank you. I shot this video all handheld on my GH13. It was the opening game for my schools team (FIU) and I put this film together to be played on the televisions around campus. Music is by The Swedish House Mafia. We shot over 5 hours of video for this one film. I used 70% the kit lens, 25% the 9-18 olympus, and 5% the Nikkon 50mm.

              • Autism-My Senses to What I Think are Your Senses

                03:39

                from Kate McSpadden Added 269 2 17

This is the final project to the Video Arts class at Northern Illinois University. I wanted to make my video about Autism. As a person with Asperser’s syndrome, a mild form of autism, many people without the neurological disorder ask me what it’s like as an autistic person. One of the reasons it is a difficult difficult disorder to understand because its symptoms varies from person to person, even if they have the same form. Autistic people have certain senses that are more acute than normal, like a blind person who has a strong sense of hearing, taste or smell. With more acute senses, certain things can be too much to handle and stressful. For me, I have sensitive ears and sounds that are loud and sudden make me tense, a balloon pop to me sounds like a gunshot. However, some senses become acute that it makes people fascinated in certain things that normal people do not think is interesting and find it a typical every day. I am a visual person, and a variety of bright colors, sharp contrasts, and the way glitter reflects light is very fascinating to me. At first, the idea of the video was to show normal people what an autistic person sees and hears. But the teacher suggested it would be easier and more visually interesting if I made the video about how I see and compare it to how I think a normal person sees. I think that a reason why people do not find certain things interesting is that they are oblivious to the details of the object or they see it as dull and boring. As for sounds, I increased the volume on the scenes that represent my senses and lowered the volume for the scenes representing normal people because I think this allows them to tolerate sounds that are too loud to me. Some of the scenes depict objects that interest me, like glitter, flowers, and lights in the dark. I find glitter, especially fine textured, fascinating because of the texture, how it reflects light and all of the different colors and shades it shows. For sound, I wanted to show the loud and sudden sound I hear when a balloon pops and have the viewers feel that sense of tenseness when hearing it.

                    What are Tags?

                    Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
