What I admire and respect about my friend Kevin Sampson goes beyond him being a world-renowned and accomplished fine artist, a dedicated arts educator and activist. It is his boldness to speak passionately and with conviction regarding his perspective on Newark arts, whether privately or publicly. During today's panel discussion, his comments lit a spark that stimulated an immediate and visible discomfort across the room. The Caucasian lady sitting near me (who shall remain nameless) let out a loud sigh and said to no one in particular "why is he bringing up race? its 2014, we should be past that! he's just angry" I leaned over and said "well clearly we're not over it" She ignored me. The Black man sitting behind me turned to her and said "that's right. we're all just human beings." *blank stare* What we should be past is using the term angry, whenever a Black man speaks with some boldness or conviction. And if he is angry, we should be past acting like he may not have a right to be. What we should be past is not being able to openly discuss race among a room full of adults, particularly folks who claim to be creative and progressive. I'm glad I captured the moment the match was lit to strike the spark! Respect to artists Kevin Blythe Sampson, Bisa Washington, Ben Jones and Rodney Gilbert for speaking so candidly, forthrightly and off script! #ThePlotThickens #DopeArtStuff #TruthToPower

I've been blessed to have a couple of options for where I work, outside of my home office/studio. The best thing about a creative and collaborative space like Solo(s) Project House, is that you never know who might pop in to inspire you! That's how I felt when I looked up and saw my main man actor, director, etc Jamil A.C. Mangan walk into our studio aka Sidewalk Catwalk, with film maker DuBois Ashong, also a Solo(s) studio resident. Of course I had to get a #pinkdragonsdopestuff drop! I've known Jamil for a few years and he is ALWAYS WORKING! We did some stuff together on his original film project with Dubois, Thelonious Hands, based on the life of the great jazz musician Thelonious Monk. I can't wait for that project to really take flight. To get a sense of how dope of an actor Jamil is, check out the promo trailer https://vimeo.com/18089125 I have spoken with Jamil by phone while he was in Alaska (yes Alaska) for several weeks starring in a production of Raisin In The Sun, directed by Jade King Carroll. Next thing I know, he's with Kevin Bacon on The Following and then he's in Hartford doing the classic stage play The Mountaintop. Nothing is more inspiring and motivating than someone who embraces their gifts and actively pursues their passions! That's Jamil and that's #dope! #pinkdragonsdopestuff Get familiar ... check out www.jamilmangan.com

Short for The YUME Festival of International Independent Urban Arts & Culture, The YUME FEST is based on one simple idea : To create a global festival, offering a unique artistic selection while bringing the rising stars from the disciplines of Music, Art, and Fashion together to build bridges between different cities around the world. YUME FEST “Makes The World Smaller.” Successfully launched in 2010 in Tokyo, Japan and New York City, YUME FEST is holding up to its ideology. By localizing the long standing international indie movement YUME FEST will open doors to new cities across the globe to the artists, musicians, and fashionistas who are looking to break the mold and create new and exciting movements globally. YUME Fest looks to create viable opportunities for niche brands and larger corporate impressions to interact with the people and places that influence their products at a grass roots level within an authentic environment tailored by artists for artists. In 2011 The YUME Group will look to hold its second season of YUME FEST in Tokyo, NYC, and expand to Atlanta, Georgia, Toronto, Canada, and London. By utilizing the power of social networking and working hard to procure key partnerships in each city across the globe, we are able to truly assess the needs of the artistic community and how they really want to interact with one another as well as brands from across the globe. With each new city added we hope to support and inspire new creative relationships that assist the global arts community in growth as well as allow it to address global issues that effect everyone despite race, culture, or religion.

A short documentary made in July/August 2010, observing street artists taking their art peices from the sketches on the page and applying them to the urban canvas of Belfast, Northern Ireland. This was the first documentary that I was a major part of. It was a fantastic chance for me to film and edit footage together to create a piece of documentary film. Hope your enjoy it.
