Rania Ghosn introduces the World at Risk Panel at Taubman College's Risk Conference on March 30, 2012 The panel seeks to address the interrelations of risk and the environment in a society increasingly defined in terms of heightened threats, environmental degradation, and climate change. Away from scenarios of "ecological apocalypse" and "natural disasters," both of which flirt with a naturalization of the political, the panel highlights the interrelations of nature, expertise, and power in the construction of risk and explores the agency of representation and design in the making and unmaking of such uncertain worlds.

Tailoring his graduate degrees (City & Regional Planning / Landscape Architecture) from Cornell University to better understand the cross-disciplinary solutions to urban problems, his work focuses on the development of public space, ecological remediation, and design solutions to housing. Nicolas has also worked in an art studio island6 in Shanghai, exploring various mediums and developing his graphic communication skills within a creative context. Having lived in a variety of Western & Asian countries, he hopes to professionally acquire the means of achieving appropriate interventions tailored to the contemporary global city. Kushan Dave is a young architect, social entrepreneur and city planner with keen interest in urbanism, history and human interactions. He has written academic papers on cities in India and U.S with focus on anthropometrics and evolving urban fabric. Before starting his graduate studies at Cornell University, Kushan helped the team at ModRoof to innovate products that have real world implications – affordable roofing solutions for urban and rural houses. In addition, Kushan has designed architectural projects in Mumbai and Singapore that integrate new building technologies. Human interactions continue to fascinate him and his recent work with Tygron assimilates design and finance to develop a democratic platform for new ideas. Florian Witsenburg holds an MSc in Systems Engineering and Policy Analysis from the Delft University of Technology. He is currently a member of the Dutch government’s ‘Smart Cities’ group. Florian is passionate about developing digital platforms that are fun to use and enable broader interaction between city users.
