The Transcendentalists were heretics in the 19th century Unitarian church. What is the relevance today of their free-thinking rejection of the established Unitarian church? Ruth will lift up Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker’s mysticism and free thinking, which transcended their own time, with a compelling vision for us today.

Early July is the time when we celebrate this country's independence from England and the birth of our democracy. The words of the Declaration of Independence are big. In order to form a more perfect union...Often such words lead us to look only at our government and our critique of its many shortcomings. However, when we focus our attention on our institutions, we may forget how each of us contribute. What is democracy's call to each of us?

Even though Unitarian Universalism is a covenantal religion- rather than a faith based on a creed- we all have individual beliefs about how to best live our lives. And yet... it isn't always easy to live up to those beliefs. Members of JUC's Worship Group dug deep into their beliefs and challenges, to present us with the June 30 service, "This I Believe. And yet..." Vince omitted the music and readings covered by copyright so you'll notice some elements missing, but included as much as possible in the on-line video. Content is presented with permission. "Holy Ground" (C. Sealy) and "Standing on the Edge of Faith" (C. & S. Sealy) performed by The EverHopefuls (Steef & Chris Sealy, Bill Mangham, Bob Brayden, Julie Excell, Dea Brayden, Keith Arnold). Worship Group (in video): Gail Abbott, Dea Brayden, Bev Curtiss, Julie Excell, Dindy Fuller, Doug Leber, Linda Orr, Rex Nelson, Chris Sealy and Julia Wilson.

We regularly hear what's wrong about men. From the headlines of our daily lives, to the philosophical reflections of how the patriarchy has dominated and controlled us all, to our detriment. On this Father's Day we will focus, instead, on the loving father and on the creative, generative men in general who make a positive difference in our families, our communities, our country, and the world. The masculine, loving spirit is alive and well if we but pay attention.

As school lets out and summer begins, many of us brace ourselves for hearing those childhood complaints of every age: Are we there yet? You like him/her better. And of course, It's not fair! While we may no longer give voice to such things as adults, it doesn't mean we don't think them.

Most countries are facing similar challenges with regard to ageing populations and financial pressures on social care. The need to address major deficits in adult social care policy in Northern Ireland has been recognised and there is an expressed commitment to addressing the over-reliance on residential care and support independent living. This seminar highlights the conclusions that can be drawn from research evidence both within the UK and more widely and how this knowledge can be used to inform decision making. There will be a particular focus on the personalisation agenda.
