I heard the Robins making a ruckus which usually is a sign that an owl is close by. I stopped the car, got my camera gear out of the trunk to photograph it, crossed the road and walked closer to the forest where the Robins were chirping away. I didn't see any owl yet, but I know they can be quite allusive, so kept looking. I also noticed a sound that seemed different off to my right. Almost a childlike sound. So I peak over, and to my surprise, the owl is sitting on a branch right above where I parked my car. I took some photos and then, because it was so vocal, got out the tripod to capture video of the owl making it's childlike chirp. This is not the usual sound of a Barred Owl, definitely not their signature call, "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all", which makes me believe it's a juvenile owl. Either way, it didn't seem too concerned with me or the Robins. After more pondering on the sound this owl makes, it seems to be making the sound of a Spotted Owl, yet it looks like a Barred Owl, so now I'm even more confused. If you're an owl expert, I could sure use some clarification. - added July 12, 2012

There are so many reasons as to why I fly and here's another. Mix my plans-built Bushby Mustang ll aircraft with ocean, mountains, and the west coast forests of Vancouver Island, and.......well.... it just doesn't get any better. Enjoy this 'evening' ride when the shadows are long and the air silky smooth as we fly from Tofino Airport in Pacific Rim National Park, back across the island to my home airport, Nanaimo. DVD’s are currently available, or file downloads too. Please contact me with any requests at vealestreetproductions@gmail.com. Remember to include your name and mailing address. Thank you and Happy Flying!
