    The Three Marys at the Tomb (1425-1435) restored In October 2012, The Three Marys at the Tomb will be on show as part of the The path to Van Eyck exhibition at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. This panel is colourful, exceptional and refined, and to allow it to be shown at its best, it has been removed from its frame and will now be cleaned, studied and restored. A video is being made about the restoration, exposing the unusual history of the painting. This teaser highlights some of the questions being asked by experts.

De tentoonstelling De weg naar Van Eyck (okt 2012-feb 2013) was het resultaat van een jarenlang onderzoek naar de voorgangers, inspiratiebronnen, tijdgenoten en natuurlijk het leven en oeuvre van Van Eyck zelf. Friso Lammertse, conservator van Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, gaf in oktober 2012 een heel mooie lezing: Een weg of een paadje naar Van Eyck. Hierin gaat hij in op de vernieuwingen die Jan Van Eyck realiseerde en schetst een beeld van de kunstwereld tijdens de leerjaren van Van Eyck.

          MAGICAL RISO An impression of the first International RISO Expert Meeting which took place on Friday 7 November 2014 at the Van Eyck Academy Maastricht (NL). -- The next upcoming event will be the RISO Artward in November 2016 at the Van Eyck. The day’s programme comprised lectures, presentations and demonstrations. Featured speakers: Karin de Jong – PrintRoom, Rotterdam, NL (www.printroom.org); Joyce Guley and Jan Dirk de Wilde – Knust Nijmegen, NL(www.extrapool.nl/knust); Justin Bailey - Hato Press, London, UK (www.hatopress.net); Sigrid CaIon – artist, Tilburg, NL (www.sigridcalon.nl); Jurgen Maelfeyt – graphic designer, Ghent, BE (www.jurgenmaelfeyt.be); Victor Hachmang – illustrator, The Hague, NL (www.viktorhachmang.nl); Anna Frei – Kulturbüro Zürich, CH (www.kulturbuero.ch); George Wietor – Issue Press, Grand Rapids, MI, US (www.issue-press.com). The speakersl generously shared their expert skills and knowledge and went deeper into the range of possibilities of self-publishing for artists, the unexpected colour effects and richness of various types of stencil printing. At the Charles Nypels Lab experts of the lab and of RISO gave demonstrations and unfolded the unsuspected potentials of the A3 and A2 Duplicator. The abundant programme further constituted a RISO exhibition that showcased old stencil machines and printed matter that was made especially on the occasion of the International Expert Meeting. The day’s programme comprised lectures, presentations and demonstrations on risography. Featured speakers included representatives of Knust /Extrapool, Hato Press and Issue Press, among others. The abundant programme further constituted a RISO exhibition that showcased printed matter made especially on the occasion of the International Expert Meeting by artists Johannes Schwartz, Rob Johannesma, Julie Peeters and Chaim van Luit, among others. E' da notare la posizione di tre quarti del soggetto, una assoluta novità nella ritrattistica dell'epoca. Notate l'accuratezza e la precisione dei dettagli impareggiabile per i pittori contemporanei. Questi risultati Van Eyck li ha ottenuti rielaborando una tecnica all’epoca in disuso: la pittura con i colori ad olio. È grazie a questo tipo di colori usati con insuperabile maestria, che riesce ad ottenere immagini con un impatto visivo fino ad allora impensabile. Questi colori, gli permettono di usare un maggior numero di sfumature, rendere più realistiche e nitide le immagini, creare delicati effetti di ombre e luci e rappresentare sofisticati ambienti con una prospettiva dello spazio senza l'utilizzo delle formule geometriche che verranno applicate in Italia nei decenni successivi. Sono questi i motivi che rendono van Eyck rivoluzionario e che gli attribuiscono un posto decisivo nella storia dell'arte occidentale.
