    • Prototyping Tinder - Part 2

      from Proto.io - Mobile prototyping / Added

Tinder has a unique UI which calls for an extensive use of variables. The cards in the UI can be dragged left and right which in part trigger the LIKE/NOPE labels, but also set a few variables which decide what happens to card once a user let's go. The card can either return to its' original position, exit to the left or exit to the right. Finally, we also add the actions button which control the cards "externally". All in all, this is an advanced tutorial, but it will also help you get a grip of how variables can be used in extreme situations. This is Part 2 of 2.

      • Introducing "X Squared" to Kids with Cuisenaire Rods and Base 10 Blocks - Math Video

Cuisenaire Rods and Base Ten blocks can be used to represent variables in algebra. This makes it less abstract and young kids are able to understand what would otherwise be completely beyond their math and logic abilities. My girls have had previous experience with square numbers and I think that helped them to catch on to this quickly. You can see videos of them playing with square numbers in base ten here... http://www.educationunboxed.com/squares_and_square_roots.html I learned this "x squared" stuff from Crewton Ramone's House of Math - this video specifically… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T5-Iu64e6k&feature=relmfu He knows a lot more than me so go check out his videos.

Foursquare's latest application introduced a new way to turn on specific functionality in the app. They used a sliding switch on the header, which toggles neighbourhood tracking. This was interesting to build as you only have a single container which changes depending on the status of the tracking functionality.

this tutorial describes how to solve this problem by using linear combination: {4x+2y-2z=10 {2x+8y+4z=32 {30x+12y-4z=42 I don't double check my work in the video, because it would have made the size of the video file too big to upload. Feel free to double check my work.
