There are so many ways to fix things up. To patch a thing so it doesn’t have any holes, or… still has them I guess but they’re covered. Sometimes though…sometimes the patch can define the thing. Can become the thing. The little fix put on to bridge a void became the defining characteristic of the thing. Like stories sometimes have a great big plot hole. They’re well thought-out and drawn-up but there’s some gaping void of logic somewhere. More times then not it’s okay cause the thing you came up with to fix it had to be good. Good enough to steal the show even. Musicians sometimes make their songs a little too short- like, they got a good chorus and can play it a couple times but gotta figure out what goes in between. That’s usually the best part of the song when all’s said and over with. Sure sometimes a patch-up job can be a pox. A scar that shows just how bad the stitch work was until the day you’re in the ground. Even in that case it defines the thing though. It’s ok to appreciate a thing cause it doesn’t have any holes or gaps but just know that it probably used to. Or will. Anything devoid of voids had a long road to get that way or has one coming. Fly straight, guīmì. Stay true, move strong, what more can you do? I’ve been calling to you. Through the mists that sweep through the old town gate and the rush of the mountain waterfalls, I have whispered your name. Naturalness. Is that what they call it? Come here to me, but come not for me, come not for the mountain. Come to be. Be in the way that the leaves turn towards the sun. Be in the way that the birds sweep across the sky in the evening. How is it to have action without action? It doesn’t mean to step slowly or to whittle away to nothing in honor of the almighty thought. One cannot chase after wu wei. It doesn’t even happen to you. It is you. You, me, here, the mountain. Turn your ear, turn your mind, turn your wing. Life has been waiting for you since you were born. ARTIST: Liu Dao 六岛 MEDIA: RGB LED display, acrylic painting, paper collage, teakwood frame EDITION: Unique DATE: Made in island6, Shanghai (year) SIZE: 103.5(W)×103.5(H)×5(D) cm CREDITS : Jin Yun 金云 (painting) • Thomas Charvériat (art direction & technical guidance) • Anto Lau (art direction & video animation) • Jean Le Guyader (documentation) • Yeung Sin Ching 杨倩菁 (production supervisor) • Adam Hsieh 谢昕 (production supervisor) To read more please visit: http://www.island6.org/PathToMountQingcheng.html

Given as a token of the truest intention, this beauty has seen its fair share of dirt. Little fights over scattered socks and big fallouts over late nights have left behind traces of dust that, bit-by-bit, obscure the patina. Rings like that you gave to me that night in the park date back to the Romans. They’d slip circles of gold onto the fourth finger of a beloved’s left hand, right over the supposed vena amoris that wound its way up to the heart. The luster has faded after so many years, but this vow fits now more than ever. Somehow the maintenance has been left to me, but I’m happy to roll up my sleeves in the name of what we’ve built. This one, this gold behemoth that you presented me with fifteen years in, seems like it arrived already filthy. Unlike the diamond, there were no innocent kisses to pepper it with glossy, sparkling memories. I have to shine this one every morning, but there’s no sweeter work than this.
