        • Nikon D7000 Video Tricks - Exposure Control - Fader ND

Fifth Episode of Nikon D7000 Video Tricks. In this video I show you different ways for a right exposure and why I suggest you to use a Fader ND Filter. Most people know that if you are recording at 25 fps and you want to see smooth movements you need to use 1/50 shutter speed (always double the fps). You can increase the F stop value but then you will lose the ‘bokeh’ effect (swallow depth of field). Also you can increase the shutter speed to have a great bokeh effect but then you will not record with smooth movements (see at the palm trees leaves in take two). If you want to use the F stop and shutter speed you want the only way is to use a ND Filter. In this case I’ve used a Light Craft Workshop Fader ND Mark II filter that is really good because with only one filter you have a light reduction from 2 to 8 stops, instead of a set of ND filters, and as you can see you can rotate it to adjust the exposure. The only thing that you need to be careful is not to use more than MAX value, because then you will see a cross effect like in the last 2 clips. Fourth Episode of Nikon D7000 Video Tricks. In this video I show you differences between sRGB and AdobeRGB Color Space. In this case I do not recommend you to choose one in particular, is just to help you decide which you prefer. Most people use sRGB because is the standard but comparing them I prefer to use AdobeRGB (is my personal choice). For my eye sRGB is oversaturated and the colors are unreal. Of course you can reduce saturation in the Picture Control but you will see that the colors are different between them, for example the sky, with sRGB is greener than with AdobeRGB. To decide which you like more, I suggest you to have your monitor perfectly calibrated. Third Episode of Nikon D7000 Video Tricks. In this episode I show you differences from 0 to 9 Sharpen with AlvaroYus-Curve Picture Control applied. Most people think that 0 Sharpen is the best for a right adjustment in post, but if you try it you will see that is not true, it appears some strange artifacts when you try to add Sharpen in post. Second reason is that with 0 Sharpen is really hard to know if the scene is focused or not. In my experience working in post with Unsharp Mask and other Sharpen filters is that 2 or 3 Sharpen in camera is the best value (AlvaroYus-Curve comes with 3 Sharpen). Second episode of Nikon D7000 Video Tricks. In this video I show you differences between Standard, Neutral and AlvaroYus-Curve in how the shadows are interpreted from 1/30 to 1/8000 shutter speed. With my curve you can see on the camera screen exactly the same than here and you can adjust shutter speed or your fader ND filter until you see the shadows well. As you can see with highest values of shutter speed and my curve it appears some strange patterns in the shadows. You can think that the curve is wrong... but is not, is the real information there are in the shadows. I prefer to see this strange patterns on the camera screen to adjust the exposure more accurate, just one step above when the blacks are crushed to gain the maximum information in highlights, with other picture control you can't see when the blacks are crushed. First Episode of Nikon D7000 Video Tricks. In this short video I show you differences between Standard, Neutral, Neutral Flat and my own created Video Curve. For me Neutral Flat is not enough to see the real information in the shadows (look at the darkest area), I need to know if what I'm filming is valid or not. With this curve you can see directly on the camera screen if you are losing or not information in the shadows even with the more contrasted scene. Because of the simplicity of the curve is really easy the color correction, just one simple adjustment in curves. Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
