    • (Talea et) Color for Myron Laskin [10.14.2012 Take 3]

(Talea et) Color for Myron Laskin is a manic audio-visual faux-isorhythmic ballet of the sounds, lights, and images produced by seven MIDI-controlled 35mm slide projectors. The inevitable jams, stuck slides, and other mechanical failures that occur when these instruments are pushed way beyond their intended purposes are essential part of the performance and serve as a reminder of the fallibility of the technology that constructs and maintains our image-based reality. (T&)C4ML transplants contemporary visual pollution and sensory supersaturation out of the comparatively innocuous digital cinema of Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, etc. etc. and into an imaginary place in an analog past, where every awkward family snapshot or vacation photo that flashes across the retina is the result of a noisy mechanical process that becomes the incessant soundtrack to this dance of light, cardboard, and reversal film. Dedicated to the late Myron Laskin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who I have only met through his incredible slide collection. The sound of the projectors was not altered in any way except to filter out the constant noise of their coolant fans. MIDI wizardry made possible by Highly Liquid (http://www.highlyliquid.com/) Thanks to Aaron Hall, who probably saved me from starting an electrical fire (or at least from melting a few relays). Recorded October 14, 2012 http://www.lawtonhall.com/
