Ten x Ten was started as a way to upend the usual creative economy between Chicago bands and printmakers, namely the one based around show posters. Since then, the project has evolved into a dual-media collaboration between visual artists and musicians that explores ideas of abstraction, the collaborative process, and the translation of artistic gestures across media. Alexander Stewart & Peter Maunu: Sharing an affinity for the minimal, sparse, abstract, and often favoring layered textural and ethereal gestures, the collaboration of Peter Maunu and Alexander Stewart will explore connections between their sonic and visual worlds. Ten x Ten 2015 Release Event Saturday, September 12, 2015, 9:00pm Constellation, 3111 N Western Ave. Culminating screen prints are presented and final compositions are performed live. tenxtenchicago.com alexanderstewart.org

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. FAIR USE ONLY. For this Easter weekend, I would like to offer you my cover of Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux ? (Why not start to be happy now), a song composed in 1937 by Paul Misraki with lyrics by Andre Hornez. It was made famous by Ray Ventura et ses Collégiens ( The Collegiate Five). Ray Ventura was a French jazz bandleader who played a significant role in popularizing jazz in France in the 1930s. This song was covered in a gypsy jazzy version by Patrick Bruel in 2002 in his album entitled « Entre Deux ». Although it was first recorded in 1938, this song remains emblematic of the Front Populaire (the Popular Front : an alliance of left-wing movements during the interwar period) and to the creation of the right to paid leave for workers (1936). I used a karaoke backing track. TRANSLATION : Why not start to be happy now? Why not start to have some fun? The road is ready The sky is blue There are hazelnuts On the rutted path There's hope in everybody's eyes And a smile in every dimple Joy is here for us It's wonderful Why not start to be happy now? Why not start to be happy now? Why not start to have some fun? The little cottages Are opening their eyes, And the radio is playing a happy little tune, The sky has put on its blue suit And the rosebush is wearing its blossoms Love is here for us It's wonderful Why not start Why not start Why not start to be happy now? INSTRUMENTAL Why not start to be happy now? Why not start to have some fun? There are violets Here and there, everywhere, And grapes of all colors, Butterflies are fluttering in twos The millipede is putting on its socks, Larks are whispering Love words to one another, Why not start Why not start Why not start to be happy now?
