Beyond branding as a differentiation strategy, branding theory has evolved to recognize the significance of social, cultural, and political relationships related to brand consumption. In focusing on the consumer’s experience of the iconic brand of Harley-Davidson, this work reports on more than three years of ethnographic work undertaken in Australia. The outcome is a description of the experiential meaning of the inconic American brand, Harley-Davidson, outside of its native America, in Australia.

Short observational portrait of a place in decay and a space of transition. Memorial of Estonian sportsman of the century chess player Paul Keres in Tallinn. „What begins as undifferentiated space becomes place as we get to know it better and endow it with value. ... If space allows movement, place is pause.“ Yi-Fu Tuan (Space and Place: The Perspective of Experience) „If a place can be defined as something that is associated with identity, relationships and history, then space that cannot be defined by identity, relationships or history forms a non-place. ... Non-places creates neither singular identity nor relation; only solitute and similitude.“ Marc Augé (Non-Places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity)

Composing collectivity explores musical performance in Havana, using experimental techniques to create a convergence of art, documentary and ethnography. In Cuba music is a way of life, a collective practice and a defining symbol of culture and identity, but also an intriguing example of intercultural performance: performances that incorporate multicultural influences as a component of artistic creation. Highlighting the hybrid nature of Cuban music and culture, the film aims to provoke consideration of the positive creative outcomes that arise from global integration and artistic exchange. This film, which is accompanied by a traditional essay, has been produced as part of a thesis for the MA in Intercultural and International Communication program at Royal Roads University. A Cultural Group of the New Zealand Police travels to Western Samoa to perform at the annual Teuila Festival. Two group members of Samoan origin also return to Samoa on this occasion. While for Auckland-born Tyrone Laurenson, a police officer in Auckland and president of the group, it is just one of his regular visits to Samoa, for Michael Alofa, who came to New Zealand with his parents as an eight-year-old and now works in the security industry, it is the first return after 20 years. By describing the two protagonists' everyday life and work as well as their feelings about the notion of "home", the film exemplifies the split and at the same time double cultural identity of migrants who remain rooted in their Samoan culture, while over the years a new, western-oriented identity in New Zealand emerges.

Zamoranos is a video about Holy Week in the city of Zamora (70,000 people) in north western central Spain. I shot it in 2011 with a JVC (16:9) and a Sony Handycam (4:3). From more than five hours of visual documents I have chosen 40' of images. As a visual ethnographer the cinematography is not about the religious symbols and images as it is common in documentaries about the Holy Week in Spain. It is about people and soundscape.
