Human DNA has evolved from the DNA of simpler life forms over millions of years. The DNA codes the sequence of amino acids in a protein, which in turn defines its structure. The computer animation shows an artistic interpretation of the evolution of proteins as the DNA has evolved over 50 million years using "real world" DNA data input from the Bioinformatics Group at Imperial College London. FormGrow is a “virtual machine” producing 3D computer art forms or designs. The DNA data, in the form of nucleotide sequences, is transformed via a series of tables empirically designed to become readable by FormGrow. These tables process nucleotides as “codon” triplets of data as would ribosomes in a live cell. Notions of “start,” “stop,” and “junk” DNA code are also embedded in the system. Through FormGrow, "artistic protein" colour schemes and structure are automatically generated in this multi-coloured animation. The structures and colour schemes generated are not those of real proteins, but since they use the same DNA sequences as a starting point for their generation, and processes with some similarities to the organic ones, they provide a visualisation of the scale of evolutionary change on a protein. This video was created by William Latham, Professor in The Computing Department at Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK in 2007 as part of the Mutator 2 Project. The computer animation was performed on the UK National Grid Service (NGS) which is co-ordinated by STFC e-Science.

This video tells the story of 15929 fire incidents that have occurred in Greece over the time span of 583 days (27-05-2008 to 31-12-2009), in 5 minutes... Yes that's right, that's roughly 27 incidents per day, a little more than 1 incident per hour. The majority of the year's incidents though (more than 50%) occurs during the summer months. Each red growing disk represents the location of the incident. The duration for which a disk remains visible is proportional to the duration of the incident. The size of the disk IS NOT proportional to the actual area affected by the incident (purely because of clarity, map scale and video surface limitations) For each incident causing damages to more than 3 hectars of land surface, the sound of a phone call is reproduced, representing a case of higher distress and imminent danger to close by communities. Marking a smaller number of fire incidents with a sound was necessary because of the shear number of concurrent incidents observed, especially during the summer months. Setting a threshold of 3 hectars, also enables us to observe a "ripple" effect on the fire incidents as they come in waves roughly following Sun rise and Sun set (or in other words, there is a correlation between temperature and number of incidents). However, there is still some sound distortion as concurrent sound samples from hundreds of fires pile up to be heard at the same time from your speakers... THE MAKING OF: The title of the video was inspired by the Kings of Leon song "Your sex is on fire". The data for this visualisation were obtained from the recently established open geodata website of the Greek Government (http://geodata.gov.gr/geodata/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=20&sobi2Id=71&Itemid=10). The visualisation was created in Processing (http://Processing.org) using the Processing port of ModestMaps (http://www.modestmaps.com/) and the 'Microsoft Maps' data provider. The Minim library (http://code.compartmental.net/tools/minim/) was used to reproduce the sounds and the Sound Sample is a phone ring from Freesound.org (http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=29621) More detailed information (albeit in Greek, for the time) is available from http://kalifasi.blogspot.com/2010/10/blog-post.html

Turntable animation, frame by frame as graphics files yes, animations? No. What it does do is render a sequence of images that represent the rotation of the model between specific angles (360 obviously for a full rotation). I had a problem getting this into a movie file (part of the video file above) on the OS X platform. Handily I found a wee AppleScript onto which you drag and drop the image sequence. It asks for the number of frames and outputs a QuickTIme file. It's called Sequimago and available here: http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=25547

One Dead Pixel created various feature visualisations and animations for the London International Boat Show. The images were created working closely with the show organisers to ensure they work in tandem with their current marketing strategies. These were then combined to create the floorplan seen above. see more at http://www.londonboatshow.com or our work at http://www.onedeadpixel.com

The Colosseum - Bucherest, Romania. The project comprises of a 54 hectre site and includes 200,000m2 of mixed-use development, containing retail, restaurants, leisure facilities and a hotel. When complete, the scheme will be Central and Eastern Europe’s largest commercial development with a total value of € 350 million. Uniform’s role was to develop a film that gave potential occupiers and customers a clear vision for this spectacular destination. The film had to create a ‘real experience’, telling the story of how the variety of infrastructure and spaces linked together, providing a fantastic insight into this ‘colossus’ project and how it will look when it’s finished. Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
