After determining the VW bug's front strut mount angles, I need to transfer the markings to my 1.5x1.5" steel tubing and cut them out. Again I am using a cut-off wheel in my angle grinder. After cutting out the angles I will need to bend the tabs over and weld them on.

With the MR2 rear struts compressed and the VW frame up off the platform, I need to refocus on the front end. I am building these front strut mounts mainly for comperession and link angle. I will redesign these mounts later on with the use of spherical bearings.

I have now positioned both VW bug strut mounts on the struts and compressed the assembly with the uni-strut. I am using 2 - 800lb. capacity turn buckles, some chain and a big "S" hook to compress the entire rear end. The engine cradle is now up off the platform and is supported only by the rear strut springs. I can't use the uni-strut for the frame member so I need to cut a pipe to fit. After I determine the mount angle I can cut this piece.

With one VW bug rear strut mount complete, I must construct the other one. I am using the plasma cutter and a wooden template to cut the top plate out of 3/16" sheet steel. I will then assemble both rear strut mounts and get ready for spring compression.

After determining the exact position of the front strut tops, I need to clearance them for the springs. I used the same small round foam template I used for the rear springs to draw out where the holes should be and then cut them out with the plasma cutter. I will probably need to cut them a bit more to get a good fit.

With both of the VW bug strut holes cut out, I will need to compress them to determine spring compression vs. ride height. I will start this process with a stout piece of uni-strut and a couple of strong turn buckles.

I now have the VW bug's body all the way down against the platfrom once more. I need to clearance the rear inside fender wells to make way for the MR2 struts. I am using the foam board again for the template. This is a tight fit and has been a concern from day one.

With the addition of all the new framing materials, I need to remove a bit more of the VW bug sheetmetal. I took a bit out of the lower rear rails, the rear inner fender wells and the front fire-wall. I will now test fit it again and see if there is anything else in the way.
