Sonar is a navigational technique that uses echolocation to detect objects and material below the surface of water or land. Bats, dolphins, Whales, shrews, and flying squirrels use sonar. Sonar technology is used by oil and gas companies to detect gas seeps in deep water fissures in order to harvest methane gas, otherwise known as fracking. In the video the person speaking uses the concept of sonar echolocation to navigate through fractured thoughts and memory of drought, and the physical space of a burn scar in the wilderness.

This view is of the northeast corner of Garden of the Gods Park, facing northwest and looking up into the canyon past the scar, which is visible end-on at the left part of the view. This video is taken moments after the wind-driven flames traversed the canyon and began burning behind Glen Eyre. The latter part of the shot zooms out to establish position - the main formations of the Garden of the Gods become visible at the extreme left. I shot this out my window as the flood waters, and a car! went by. Actually 3 cars, but only captured this one. I gave this free of charge to all the networks. I then shot some XDCAM footage that I have licensed to most of the networks. The water, mud and derbris went around us, but crossed the road upstream and downstream, trapping us between its black river and the concrete barricades that separate eastbound from westbound Highway 24. Location, westbound side facing eastbound, just west of Manitou Springs western exit. 7/10/2013 about 3:30PM.
