Tuesday evening, DART Team members conducted a training exercise in the Sacramento River at the Broderick Boat Ramp in West Sacramento. The team trained on manual dexterity by diving down and working with commonly found entanglements under water. They also worked on rope signals which is their sole source of communicating between diver and land. DART (Drowning Accident Rescue Team) is a non-profit organization. Divers and team members are volonteers. Visit their site at http://dartsac.org/

    • Cedar Creek Waterway and Mayor's 5th Annual Fitness Hike in Abilene, Texas

Each year in the month of May, the mayor of Abilene, Texas, plans and leads a hike through an area of Abilene to promote the area and to encourage fitness. This year, the hike was held at the location of Abilene's newest hike and bike trail, an area known as the Cedar Creek Waterway. This video captures that inaugural walk through the Cedar Creek Waterway while Randy Barnett, the leader of the effort to improve the area for hikers and bikers, tells us a bit about the project. More information about the waterway can be found at http://cedarcreekwaterway.org or on Facebook at CedarCreekWaterway. To my video friends, ya, I know I missed the interview shots with Randy on the edge of the creek. This was a run and gun situation and I did a lot of running to keep up with the group. By the time we did the interview portion, I do believe I was tired and missed the fact that Randy is standing in the shade and the area behind him and over his right shoulder was in full sun. This left his face darker than I like. I tried every effect I could think of in Premiere Pro CS6 but couldn't come up with a way to lighten his face without it looking contrived. Part of the issue here is that I shot this video in HDV and I can't seem to push the luma or color levels without that clip looking bad. So, while I recognize those clips will not earn me any awards at the next Vimeo Festival, I wasn't able to improve them much. UPDATE: Through the help at Creative Cow and, in particular, the tutorial on Luma Corrector for Premiere Pro CS6 by Andrew Devis, I was able to improve the interview portions of this video some. At least the background is not as blown-out as it was before. Hope you enjoy the video anyhow. Shot with Canon XH-A1 and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and Adobe Audition CS6.

A short timelapse film of a day's narrowboating on the Oxford canal. I thought timelapse photography would compliment the smooth and stately motion of the canal boat along the meandering course of the waterway and add dynamism to the negotiation of locks. Original music by me with a keyboard and Logic. Hope you enjoy!

A public performance for P.I.C.A.’s Time Based Arts Festival. Suspended on floats 20’ above the water, my fabricated “Rococo” buoy weaved and teetered in the Willamette river as I spoke to the opposing shores and the river itself through a formation of gilded megaphones. A sound composition by Bobby Jones supported the amplified monolog built from poetic ruminations and sea chantey lyrics and linked all participants in an operatic moment of pageantry and civic spectacle. This slow procession theatrically charged the river at dusk and gave its flow the function of poetic meter. Courtesy of Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Art Beat" segment.
