                03:01

                from Northcrest Baptist / Added

United in one great effort Missionary Carlos Llambes and his family are grateful they can serve through the cooperative effort of Southern Baptists and make an impact for Christ wherever they go. Day 8: Planting seeds for planting churches Today, Lily Llambes helps others embrace the true God. But at 25, she grappled with where to place her faith when she was invited into Santeria, whose practices are similar to voodoo. Instead, she became a Christian. For nearly a decade, she and her husband, Carlos, have served as Southern Baptist missionaries in the Dominican Republic. She has led home Bible studies and counseled women how to lead Christ-centered lives, including on a radio broadcast in several Latin American countries. Carlos started church-planting classes to reach Haitians as well as Dominicans, resulting in nearly 100 new churches within the past five years. Partnering churches — including First Baptist Church, Pompano Beach, Fla. — prayerwalk and invite residents to Bible studies led by local Baptists. “All the church planters, the pastor-missionaries, they have a passion for church starting,” Carlos says. “And, once they form one, they don’t stop. They look for another community without an evangelical church and start another one.” This year, the Llambes relocated to Mexico City to plant churches. Of the capital city’s more than 4,200 neighborhoods, more than 3,300 of them do not have an evangelical church, Carlos says. Neighborhoods can contain as many as 20,000 people in the city of 28 million. Pray for the Llambes family as they embark on a church-planting effort in Mexico City. Pray the church planters in the Dominican Republic and partnering U.S. churches would have discernment as they share about the true Savior. ‪#‎WeekOfPrayer‬ ‪#‎Day8‬ ‪#‎Northcrest‬ ‪#‎LottieMoonChristmasOffering‬ ‪#‎Missions‬

Church planters/musicians Eric and Anissa Haney use art and music to be a Christian witness in the spiritually dark city of Stockholm, Sweden. Day 6: Music makes relationships Good values weren’t enough for Linda Hamfors of Stockholm, Sweden. Linda, who grew up in an atheist family, believed Jesus was “a really amazing guy” and learned values from her parents like forgiveness, acceptance and love. But good values couldn’t sustain the singer/songwriter through the tumultuous years when her parents began drinking more and pursuing materialistic gain. “I was kind of a little bit left alone with my good values and I wasn’t feeling good,” Linda says. Struggling with addiction herself, Linda searched for God. She found a church. She began singing in church, and the Gospel songs moved her to tears. Then, she heard church planters Eric and Anissa Haney — also musicians — perform at an event in her city. They sang songs Anissa had written about life, hope and love. “My mind was going, ‘Oh, this is too much about Jesus and God,’” Linda recalls. “But my heart was saying, ‘Yes!’” Today, Linda is a follower of Jesus. She attends a couple of home Bible study groups. She’s learning to tell her story — in words and music. Together Linda and Anissa wrote a song they performed for Sweden’s National Peace Day. “The ‘Peace Song’ is about relationships,” Linda explains. “It’s about what it takes to trust and find peace.” Pray Linda will continue to grow close to God. Pray God will use the Haneys and their music to point others to Jesus. ‪#‎WeekOfPrayer‬ ‪#‎Day6‬ ‪#‎Northcrest‬ ‪#‎LottieMoonChristmasOffering‬ ‪#‎Missions‬

                    • An abundant harvest

                      02:59

                      from Northcrest Baptist / Added

Christian worker Mitch Englehart knows God wants him to live, work and move in such a way that many will be drawn to Christ and from that will come a harvest too vast to count. Day 5: A new wave of church planters For Mitch Englehart,* it’s a beautiful sight that’s taking place in some very dirty water. The South Carolina native watches from the bank of a stagnant canal as six new believers are baptized outside a village in South Asia. Dhanwan is one of them. “I want to follow Jesus!” the young man says, explaining that he became a Christian after a miraculous healing through the prayers of a local Baptist pastor. That pastor, Lalbahadur, is a fifth-generation Christian whose faith can be traced back to Mitch’s church-planting network. It’s January, and Dhanwan shivers as he strips down to his underwear and steps into the canal. To start the baptism chain, Lalbahadur first immerses Dhanwan, then each newly baptized believer baptizes the next. This is discipleship in action, Mitch says, and it’s what has brought him to South Asia. He and his wife, Nellie,* have spent the last nine years training church leaders like Lalbahadur. But the six baptized today are just the tip of the iceberg. Between Mitch’s two primary national partners, he’s seen more than 1,200 new churches and more than 3,000 baptisms in the last five years alone. And there’s still plenty of work to be done. Mitch’s team is busy developing a new wave of church planters focused on the area’s least-reached districts — many less than 0.1 percent Christian. “God is using these guys in mighty ways,” he says with a grin. “There’s already a fire burning. My role is to pour a little gasoline on that fire.” Pray for the Engleharts to stay healthy amid their busy lives and work and for local leaders to have strength, wisdom and insight. Pray for young believers and churches to grow and be strong in the Lord. *Names changed #WeekOfPrayer #Day5 #Northcrest #LottieMoonChristmasOffering #Missions
