The Zimbabwe Artists Project partners with Weya, Zimbabwe artists in strengthening self-sufficiency, cultural understanding, and education. In Zimbabwe there are over 1,000,000 children who have been orphaned. Most of them have lost their parents due to AIDS. The children are taken in by relatives who are often unable to pay for their school fees. ZAP has provided school fees, uniforms, other educational assistance, and encouragement to over 100 children. This video highlights ZAP's education program with footage taken in August 2013. Visit ZAP's website www.zimbabweartistsproject.org to learn more.

During an experiment of self-monitoring in a sleep lab the artist captured the state between sleep and wakefulness. A physiological rhythm is transferred onto an intricate web, seemingly bringing it to life. The web made of knitted copper receives the impulses from a network of Nitinol and piano wire passing through it. The sound in this video is from site (Djanogly Art Gallery, Lakeside, Nottingham, UK). The artwork itself is silent.

Durational performance by Martin Lewis. The artist practice embedded in drawing but emerges into site specific and durational performance. The work concerns itself carrying out absurd acts that pushes the body and, in this case, the voice to its limit. The use of numerics bridges the gap between abstract sound and emotive language or narrative. Not to mention that everything that happens happens between zero and one.

                  6 Plays / / 0 Comments

5 September- 30 October After the successful launch of the Digital Stage Art programme at Nottingham Playhouse earlier this year, Dual is the second exhibition from The Cutting Room. Dual brings together an exciting mix of contemporary artists who explore the virtual and physical worlds we inhabit. The idea of multiple identities has become common place in modern life as digital technologies now allow for the creation of alter egos that give rise to new online cultures. Dual showcases artists who explore the crossovers between the virtual and physical worlds we inhabit with pieces that offer portals into virtual realms, telematic film sets, game systems and interactive environments. Their works begin to question the use of modern digital devices and how they enable us to transform and interact within these hybrid spaces. Featuring: Michael Takeo Magruder, Brendan Oliver, Paul Sermon & Charlotte Gould, and WEYA artist Kim Stewart.
